I talked with Hamilton Bowen last week and my Anaconda barrel is back from being re-bored to .510.
Question is whether to have him build my new Redhawk on a standard Redhawk or on a Super Redhawk Alaskan base gun.
Is the Super really that much better mechanically and is the grip geometry really better at handling the recoil?
I have several Redhawk conversions he's done in the past with Anaconda barrels but they're standard Redhawks so I don't have anything to compare it to.
Thanks!

I owned 1 Redhawk and have 3 Super Redhawks. I personally like the fit and feel of the SRH's more than the RH. The biggest complaint I have heard, read and experienced is trigger pull, second for me is just they way they feel. Since you are having your six gun built by Mr. Bowen,I would expect the trigger to be non-existant,it will come down to how you like the feel of either one. Since I am assuming this will probably be a 500 Linebaugh, the Redhawk is a smaller framed sixgun and is lighter but for me,and this is very subjective,I like the overall feel, weight and the aesthetic look of the SRH.

I guess I didn't mention the cartridge. I was planning on a .500 Linebaugh and was surprised when Hamilton suggested the 510 GNR for this project. He apparently has the reamer and permission from Gary.
Got me thinking even more.

Oh man, the REAL SuperRedhawk in 500L with an Anaconda barrel to boot! I'd go with the SRH Alaskan in a heartbeat. How long is the barrel?

4.?"...as long as I can get out of a 6" barrel. I'd rather go a little longer but try finding any Anaconda barrel much less an 8" one.

Hamilton can mill the nose off that SBH and make it look like the RH but have the SRH action and the GP100 style grip attachment.. That would be my choice.. Holding 7.5 inch 44, 454, and 480 SRHs. Holding a Bowen 500L SRH too... ![](http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z110/agb1368/Super%20Redhawk/004-2.jpg) ![](http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z110/agb1368/Super%20Redhawk/Bowen%20500L/002.jpg)

I prefer the Super all around. The frame extension makes it a bit homely, but the performance more than makes up for it. I foolishly sold mine a couple of years back and the so & so won't sell it back to me. I still have a blue std Redhawk and a 629-2 MR that I rarely shoot, so I'm not in dire straits by any means. I'll get another Super, mark my words. For your particular gun, I too would have the new revolver built on the Super Alaskan frame, and have it done as a "GP44". Yours would be even classier with the Anaconda barrel.

Yeah, that GP44 style Hamilton does with the SRH is super sweet. That would be my pick for both looks, and, IME, the SRH handles the recoil much better (especially if you put the Hogue tamer with the sorbathane in the back of the grip on there). Although the GP100 style grip looks much cleaner to me.

Actually, I would have it done on the Alaskan as it will eliminate the welding needed on a SRH rear scope base cutout. In no case would I consider spending that kind of coin and not going whole hog. I say do not use a standard Redhawk for this conversion.

Until I saw that pic my vote was for the red hawk. But seeing that pic of what can be done to the frame extension of the super. I'm going with he super now as well. As for action I'm sure Mr. Bowen can get even the super RH/GP100 action close or beat a tuned RH action. The grip of the super for handling recoil as has been said is far better than the RH.

The SRH action is actually a lot more tunable than the Redhawk. It's a good foundation.

Well I have shot a few and owned one bowen RH. I'm just saying he will have to work hard to beat his RH work.

Reeder advocates and builds quite a few customs on the RH too... Based on my 80s experience with a RH I'm still sceptical. Seems like I remember that Ruger made some changes to the original RH action. If I was paying for a new Bowen big bore on a Ruger DA mine would be a SRH with the nose trimmed off for the RH look.

I had decided on the Super but sometimes it's good to see if I missed anything. It will have good company.. .45 Colt ![](http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa321/Bushog/P4040001.jpg) .480 Ruger ![](http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa321/Bushog/480Redhawk_zps37ebf29e.jpg)
