Just curious how many folks here have one.
Mine is a .357, the proof is dated 1967 so I call it a 1967 gun, and the serial is H 38XX.

My .401 is dated 1966. Don't have the S/N here at work.

I have three 401s (two from '66 and one from '65), one 357 (can't remember the year), and a 44 Magnum from '66. Luckily I bought all 5 when they were still cheap. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Mark, yours makes me want to cut mine back to the ejector. If I didn't already have a short OMBH....
But it sure looks good at that length.

Mark is that ERH stainless?

Nope. It's aluminum.
I either have to paint it or fit a Colt or Ruger ERH to it. NOT excited about painting.
Problem is, it's back together, been shot, and slipping on the priority list. Maybe some cold rainy winter day....

Oh, I'm waiting no a Herter's to come back to the shop (the owner insisted the smith take a look at it before he bought it for the store) then I'll have a well loved 44 Herter's

Speaking of stainless Powermags, Herters supposedly had one built by Sauer in the late 60's. I've never seen a photo of it, but I've been told one prototype exists. I'm pretty sure the chambering was 401. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Igot my Powermag yesterday, couple of questions 1. Where can I get a pawl, 2. How do I look up the year it was made by the serial number, 3. What grips do they take?

I date them by the proof, which is hardly definitive, but it is a place to start.
On the barrel, on the non ejector side near the frame, there should a string of proofs running horizontally. On mine the sequence is a round proof right by the frame, another longer proof by that, and then a two-digit number. That number is the last two digits of the proof date ie 67 for 1967. The latest Sauer revolver date I've seen is a 75 on a Hawes.
Obviously, this is approximate. Parts made right before the Christmas/New Years holidays might have been made one year, and proofed the next.
The best source for parts I've found is to buy complete part sets off the various auction sights. If the hand SPRING is broken, I've seen one Hy Hunter converted to a Ruger Bearcat style spring with a threaded hole drilled in the frame. The parts sequence is then a plunger, a coil spring, and a retained screw.
I haven't seen a set of Powermag grips show up for years. I got the last set Gun Parts had sometime back around 2003 or 04-no idea if they've gotten more since.
Grips for normal sized Sauer gripstraps show up now and then. I think they faux ivories were actually made in the Estados Unidos by Jay Scott. They are scarce and pricey-I paid fifty and shipping for the laminated rosewoods on my gun, and was happy to do it. The most common grips are cheap hollow plastic faux stags for the .22, and they are flimsy, and feel as cheap as they look.
"The Gripmaker" out of Carthage MO has adapted his own Colt grips to one he owns, perhaps he could tell you more.

3. What grips do they take? Powermag grips of course. The only grips to fit on the finest man sized single action revolver grip ever designed.

I've got an old beater PowerMag chambered in 357 Magnum. It has a six inch barrel with custom 2X4 grips (somebody cut them out of a pine 2X4 and shaped them with a file), a rusty rear grip frame, little remaining blueing, and weighs as much as a Prius. It also shoots great, absolutely straight, and will handle loads that will tie up some of its more dainty cousins. I like it and it is nearly always within reach.
