BTW....it's funny you should post those. Last night I was loading 250 grain Keiths into Winchester brass (44 Spl - 7.0 of Green Dot). -Lee www.singleactions.com

Maybe you fired them through the .44 Spl OM small frame Blackhawk you were working on.
Oops....You're not Lee.

You know, I never thought of that possibility Nope, we are far from that point right now, at the rate that I get to shoot here lately, we are good for years to come. No grand story, sorry guys....Actually, the sad part of the equation is that these were the FIRST five rounds I've ever loaded for the 44 Special. Its sad that it took me this long to finally have a gun made and then get around to loading ammo for it...I figure that may get me booted from the site, but I'll have to take my chances It was just a cartridge that I never owned until recently. The exciting part of it was the same...they were my first five 44 specials, ever The bullets that are loaded in them are actually from Kooz (thanks again!!) in one of his give aways so I can't wait to see how they do this afternoon. Now the neat thing about these five rounds to me is this. Since they were the first five, I pulled them from the block and put them to the side. I'm planning to go and chase a few piggies around next week again and these are the first five going into the new 44 special. Should be a fun time with a great new to me gun and cartridge.

There's a reason why the word "Special" is tied to that cartridge. I'm sure you'll enjoy shooting the old round. BTW, you picked the perfect bullet to start of with. In fact, my 44 Specials haven't seen anything but 250 grain Keiths for the past 4 or 5 years. -Lee www.singleactions.com

I didn't have any unique laying around and with the market the way it is right now, I figured it was a waste of time to try and locate a bottle of it so I just went with HS6 for the time being

HS6 is good powder. I haven't tried it in 44 Special yet, but I've used it extensively in 357, 41, 44 Mags, 401 Bobcat, 375 Atomic, etc, etc. Burns clean, meters well, and is highly accurate. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Nice to see that you don't put the "death crimp" on everything.... I make this snide remark while remembering your recommendation on the 500WE crimp and my very first experience with a bullet jumping crimp...

I loaded my first 150 44 Specials the other night. Had Unique on hand so I used the Skeeter load. I used my S&W model 24 in my initial CCW course. Next weekend is and advanced course... but you need 300 rounds ! I either have to get more brass or use a different gun. Could use a 357 but I want to carry this one in it's " Tribute " holster Think I'll sign off and go see about some more brass. ;D

I make this snide remark while remembering your recommendation on the 500WE crimp and my very first experience with a bullet jumping crimp... Yep, I bet you thought of that recommendation for sure when the ol' bullet jumped on you No, I don't put it on everything but its sort of a habit so it ends up on most of them. Chutch, thanks, glad to see I'm not the only one that has taken awhile to pic up the special 44. I guess I started with the magnum and didn't see why I'd go back to the special especially when there were so few choices in firearms other than a custom rig. As a poor college kid, custom rigs were out of the question. 10 years later, most of those customs are still out of reach However, I've learned that I didn't need all the "power" that the larger guns offer and if you are only going to shoot them in the low range anyway, why not have a smaller sixgun to tote around in the mean time. Makes perfect sense now!! Guess I wasn't as smart as I thought I was when I was in school

I shot a few 44 Specials last week and it's ironic you posted about your first loads. The box from which I took the cartridges was dated. I'd loaded these in 1985.
May be a sign I need to shoot more and more often......
