I was as surprised to learn this as you may be right now. The reaction to Cuomo's gun grab has been outspoken and powerful. Apparently I am not the only one in America who has committed to defending my liberties with my life, if necessary. There are a great many law-abiding citizens of this country who have joined together in saying "THIS is our line in the sand! Do NOT cross this line!"

Cuomo has crossed that line, and although for the record I do not advocate the use of violence to resolve conflicts, I cannot help but admit that Cuomo may very well be placing his own life, the life of his family members, and the lives of his staffers in imminent danger if he does not reverse his decision. What's brewing right now is a kind of civil war in New York, and there are apparently all kinds of gun owners across the state who are prepared to die rather than register their firearms. For this reason, and because I do not wish to see any violence occur over this issue, Cuomo needs to immediately back down and reverse his gun registration law in order to prevent bloodshed.

I'd been wondering and thinking about these sorts of issues and the quote included at the link you provided, attributed to George Washington, "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."

In the early days of independence, a militia of the people might more easily have "sufficient arms and ammunition" to maintain their independence. I don't know of anyone outside the military who has access to "sufficient arms and ammunition", i.e., drones, aircraft, automatic weapons, and all of the other that would be required by a peoples militia to resist tyranny of the government.

Would it be reasonable to argue that it is the responsibility of the government to supply "sufficient arms and ammunition" in support of the people? In other words, in order to assure the people that the militia maintains the ability to resist tyranny, they are obligated to supply the means of resistance.

As strange as it sounds, I'm not sure the argument wouldn't hold water.

I just hope people don't seriously think that the police are going to even attempt to enforce something like this. I can promise you that the police have nothing to do with it and want nothing to do with it. The vast majority of police officers are totally against this and are very pro civilian gun ownership. The Liberals hunt out the very few officer and police chiefs that are anti-gun and put their faces and quotes all over the news.
