Congratulations, it’s a beautiful rifle. I have a Shiloh Sharps in 45-90 and couldn’t be more pleased with it. Shoot the 50-90 in a Browning 1885 BPCR and it sure thumps whatever it hits. It has a 1-26 barrel and use an LBT 700 grain FN-GC with 5744 at about 1450 fps. Extremely accurate and recoil is quite manageable.

What does .512x1 and .512x1.1 designate? I know they are .512 diameter but X1 and X1.1?? Bullet weight? I have a number of LBT molds but have never them marked that way. Thanks for any help.

I have both and would recommend the Ladradar unless you need to to read anything over 3800 FPS. The LabRadar sets up in minutes, is simple to use, works very well and there is nothing out in front of you to hit. I keep the Oehler as I have several rifles in 17, 20 and 22 that shoot well over 3800 FPS which is beyond the ability of the LabRadar to read.

I’m with JT, my 50 AE is with Freedom Arms now getting a 500 WE cylinder though the 50 AE is an impressive performer.

From a 2011 post on this site by Bigbore.....
Handloader had a writeup on this round. From: .458-400 Express, J. Kronfeld, Handloader #187, June 1997
This was developed as a revolver cartridge by John Gallagher for use in a recylindered Ruger Blackhawk. The goal was a 400-grain cast or jacketed bullet at 1300 fps. The .45-70 case is shortened to 1.4" and used without neck-reaming. Hodgdon H110 was the only powder that gave the performance desired, but no load data was included in the article. Ballistics were about 10% better than the .475 Linebaugh.

I have two Bowen Rough Country Sights for New Model Rugers for sale. One sight has a white outline and the other is a black blade. Both are excellent shape. $90.00 each.

As the seller I’m glad they stayed here. I’m sure they will look great whatever you put them on.

Hank Jr owns a gun shop near Stevensville, MT called Deadly Nostalgia. I bought a custom Browning 1886 45-70 Hank Jr. had built for him by a gentleman in Big Timber, MT. and picked it up at Hank Jr’s shop. Believe there is someone at the shop that does some work for him.

Mr. Bradshaw raises a good point and as a side note we did swap out the scope with one we knew was reliable hoping that was the problem but to no avail.

I just spent a good deal of time and effort working with a friends Christensen Arms 300 Win. Mag. to develop a load. The accuracy of his particular rifle was totally inconsistent. I would find a test load that shot really well and the next time I went back it was all over the paper. This happened repeatedly and never could get it to group consistently. We also tried various factory loads with no better results. Shooting a steel plate at 400 yds we would put 2 rounds right on the money and the 3rd round 8” high and 6” to the right. Finally sent it back to Christensen Arms and they said it would be about 8 weeks. I’ve read a lot of good reviews and some not so good. Our experience so far has not been good.

Made up shotshells today for both the 475 and 500 Linebaugh. Used 5 grains of Unique in the 475 and 6 grains in the 500. Put a thin cardboard wad over the powder, filled the case with shot, seated a gascheck upside down over the shot and crimped it in place. Worked great and really peppered a paper plate at 12 feet.
