did some shooting with the 45 today using trail boss did not work out like I would have liked. Groups were nothing to write home about. It seemed to work in the 44 special fairly decent. Which is good because that is where I wanted to put my time anyway. Any good loads for the 44 special someone let me know I really like 2400 also. Lets back up and find out some base information here, what gun are you shooting? What performance levels are you trying to accomplish? And what bullets are you using? Trail Boss is great for mild cowboy action level shooting but it is not a high performance powder like 2400 is...

Groo here I have worked some with Trail Boss in 357,41mag,44,and 475L. Even though the powder is a fast burning one, there is so much space in and around the "donuts" I think getting a good burn requires a good crimp and [for my 41mag police loads] a hot primer. Lets try a not too hard bullet , a good heavy crimp, a full charge [ book or full case], and a hot or magnum primer.

I am kinda of confused there has been 95 people look at my post and not one person had any advice about loads well maybe I need to just read and not post. Well, I apologize if I seemed to slight your post, but I was thinking you were looking for loading data using Trail Boss. As to .44 Special, here is one of my very favorites: And: As to the .45 Colt: I've been using HS-6 for a lot of stuff, .357 Magnum, .38 Special, .44 Special and .44 Magnum. Works well for me. I'm late to the party, but I have burned quite a bit of Trailboss in the .45 Colt & the groups while not spectacular, are good. I've gotten 2-1/2" groups from a rest @ 25 yards. The load I use is 3/10s below IMRs maximum load. I cannot get a double charge in the case, I've tried & it'll overflow. I kind of like Trailboss & if it weren't more expensive than Titegroup I'd burn a lot more of it. I'm not getting top velocities, but I want to keep my .45 Colt loads at Colt levels anyway. I get 820fps from my load with a 255gr SWC or RNFP lubed with SPG. I'd have to say I like Trailboss, it's easy to stay out of trouble with. I don't get any leading it was developed for use with lead bullets. The cases aren't all sooted up & come out of the chambers clean. Work with your loads & I think you will come to like Trailboss. I do. Hope this helps some. I also like it in the .44WCF! Frank

I use TB with 200g lead bullets (Berry's) in a Ruger Blackhawk and have no problems.
It is the 5.5g load on the IMR site.
But
I only use that for plinken
