Here, temps dropped about 10 degrees overnite, snowing. Am thankful, yesterday's rain , sleet, sloppy snow , plus wind was miserable. When I 1st get up and happen to look out to see it snowing, memories...Today am remembering a 2nd failed attempt to summit Mt Marcy in upstate NY.. On paper, a summer or fall trip, can be pleasant. Jan-Feb climbs require snow shoes, and some mountaineering gear. Both tries had lows below zero, one trip never came above zero. Depending on which side of ridge, mtn, snow depths were 3-8'. When we gave up on day 3 and bailed down off the high peak range we trudged into a small farm and found the farmer up and out, in the barn feeding his stock. His eyes bugged out when he saw us. But he offered coffee and hot chocolate and a ride around the end of the range to get back to our vehicles. GOD bless that man. We were low on everything there were quite a few seat of pants, elbows, trousers knees wore thru from falls and slides. We drove on in to Lake Placid and got a room and showered in turn. An evening to party ! There 4 of us. Me and two brothers nearly the same size, weight. Typical endurance type physiques. The 4 th guy was well over 6ft and 250 lbs. Had been m60 squad gunner in his MP unit. Had sat on a transport plane in full gear for 2 days during the Iran Hostage Crisis. His unit on alert if things went to a ground war. So, in bar lounge near the rink of Olympic fame we met 4 guys from Austria. Oddly same make up of a team as ours ! After a few pitchers of beer, theirs darker than ours, and with the help of the bar tender, we found out they were in town to train on the 4 man bob sled runs. They realized when been out and in the hills, mtn's, for 3 days straight. Both groups thought the other CRAZY ! We had driven by the bottom of the runs, ski jump towers etc., TV does not do these thing justice. Need more coffee, bye.

Cleaning up the last mortises on the wooden legs and ready to cut the cross rails and their tenons later today then it on to making the leg vice and the sliding deadman. So far I have used material I have on hand but I may have to buy the moving leg vice wood. I'll see what the hardwood store has in stock. Watched a few videos on hand cutting mortise and tenons last night. Sheesh, why didn't I do that first! could have saved myself some grief. I hate being dumb sometimes. Other times I just embrace my "specialness" as my buddy Zeus calls it.

As long as the grief didn't include cutting anything off, or smashing didgets beyond fixing you are fine, wood can be repaired easier than flesh. Just turn the ugly side to the wall, or put it in a corner. Speaking of the table of course.

Luckily all these mortise and tenon joints are blind with good sized shoulders on the tenon pieces so they won't be visible but I still know what they look like underneath but I consider this a learning project so it will let me fine tune my tools and techniques for the next Roubo bench. I have enough raw materials for two more bench tops and leg sets so I will make some adjustment on technuiques on the next bench since it will be going up for sale.

We live in a rural mountain are and shared our road with a couple of neighbors, one day my wife and I were watching a football game, the quarter back threw a pass witch bounced off the receivers hand, my wife began screaming NO!,NO!,NO!, all of this as the neighbors drove by.

Held a 22LR Glock. Took the slide off and looked it over... Not bad... Barrel locks up solid in the slide. Shot it. Pleasantly surprised. Needs better sights and trigger work but all in all not bad.
