what are the little black dots between and to the rear of the bolt cuts on the cylinder of your Dragoon? Lee Martin's 5.5 Dragoon with the horn grips seems to have them, too. I see one at the top of the frame window on MajorKap's shorty as well.

That is a reference mark. The idea appears to be to make it easy to identify the empty chamber. Starting with that chamber under the hammer, with the "load one skip one, load 4" sequence, the empty chamber ends up right where it belongs under the hammer.

So I just got back from the range. VERY happy with it. Here's the first 5 shot off hand unsupported at 30 feet at the local indoor range without touching the sights. Showed the gun around to a few of the guys I really respect at the range, and they were all MIGHTY impressed with the fit, finish, lockup, and action. One commenting that he's never seen a single action that locked up that tight. My friend that runs the shop/range, came out and shot 5 rounds and loved it. Made one quick rudimentary sight adjustment. Two clicks left, two clicks down. Finished off the box of 240 gr. cpfp M&M reloads (local reloading operation) labeled "Hot Loads" lol... shooting the same size target at the 50ft mark off hand unsupported again. Shanked one off high and right into the 7 ring, with the rest in the black except for 3 that were just barely out in the 8 ring. Centered nicely but just out of the black. Looks like a "keeper" to me. Now I'm not so sure I want to cut it down! hahahha.... although I still like the idea of a 5 1/2" or 4 3/4" with a nice Jim Stroh front sight.....

Are the screws and parts interchangable with Colt parts? It a firing pin or a hammer need replacing can you get parts to fit?

I doubt anything on the Virginian Dragoon is interchangeable. It's a fair amount bigger than the Colt. More the size of a Blackhawk.. actually a touch bigger. Frame mounted firing pin.
As for the SAA size Virginian... not sure, but maybe someone here can answer that.
