Yeah, don't fire Magnums through a flatgate. I think the bore is .219 and you need .222. FLATGATES ARE .216"; ORIGINAL .22 RIMFIRE MAGNUMS SINGLE-SIXES ARE .223" WHEN RUGER WENT CONVERTIBLE THEY COMPROMISED AT .219"

What various 22 Magnum loads do you guys find most accurate in your Ruger Single Six's? I SPENT THE MORNING TESTING A 9-1/2" RUGER .22/.22MAG. 13 .22 LONG RIFLE LOADS; 9 MAG LOADS. AVERAGE FOR LONG RIFLE WAS 7/8"; AVERAGE FOR MAG LOADS WAS 7/8". EVERTHING SHOT WELL. BEST .22 GROUP WAS 5/8" WORST WAS 1-1/8"' BEST MAG GROUP WAS 3/4" WORST WAS 1". AGAIN EVERYTHING SHOOTS WELL. THIS IS AT 20 YARDS FROM 73 YEAR OLD HANDS AND 73 YEAR OLD EYES. A YOUNG GUY MIGHT DO BETTER. Good Shootin' Mr. Taffin!

FWIW I understand that this between size for all started after serial number 150,000. There is obviously quite a science here. We know that David Clements has developed an accuracy treatment for Single Sixes. We also know that FA builds 22/22M convertibles. Sounds to me like there is some significant throating/forcing cone science going on here.. The 22LR and 22M that Reeder is currently building for me will have appropriately sized 22LR and 22M barrels. I'm looking forward to some Ransom Rest time with these two.
