I carried my Lipsey's Birdshead .45ACP today. I have been intending to try carrying it concealed, so I strapped it on to go to the grocery store this afternoon. I always wear long Polo style shirts outside Khaki pants, and the big old sixgun concealed very well in the Lobo Threepersons style holster. I usually carry a S&W Model 60 in a pants pocket. When you carry that Ruger, you know you have a gun strapped on. Not worried about the Single Action, nor having "just" six rounds. If you shoot that Ruger dry, you still have a heckuva club to beat somebody's brains out with. ;D I put a lot of rounds through the Ruger since I got it in February, and I feel very comfortable with it. Actually, I have been shooting Ruger Single Actions since 1973, so I should have learned how they handle. It won't become my every-day carry, but I will carry it a lot, I'm sure. Practicing point shooting at the backyard range earlier this spring.

Now you are talking! Due to limited funds (buying house), I am restricted to one handgun at this time. My Vaq Birdshead has been my only carry weapon, and I love it! It's not my "forever" carry gun, but for now, it works! The weight does not bother me. After a year in Iraq, lugging 60+ pounds of body armor and weaponry....I'm good to go!

Wow, thanks for sharing fella's. Nice six-guns.
Wheelyfun45. I don't consider a fellow armed with a good SA as unarmed, then when you throw in the .45ACP well, it's formidable! Frank

I'll play. Original Model/Big frame birdshead. 45 Colt/45 ACP convertible. Tune up by John Linebaugh as pictured. Rob set me up with some very nice leather for it. It has since lost the factory rollmark on the 45 colt cylinder, and has grown a Bisley hammer via John Gallagher. The 45 ACP cylinder now has a BP chamfer via Alan Harton. The only thing I dislike about carrying it is deciding which cylinder to put in it

Erich... just curious. Do you carry that loaded mag as your ammo holder? Great idea!

Markbo, yeah: it's something i've done with single-action .45acp revolvers since the eighties. I would not be at all surprised if someone told me about it, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it was just something that seemed like a good idea. Obviously, you just thumb the new rounds into the gun from the mag. Sure is easy to carry a flat mag . . .

Took my Birdshead out for a 100 round quick range session today..... accurate, flawless, and I carried it all over town and back, still wearing it as I type this. Matter of fact, I went from the shooting range to the archery range (same property, different area) and shot bows with my buddy....under just a tee shirt, resided my Birdshead....he had no clue!

I love my 44-40 Sheriff model , but it don't hide well and is super heavy for all day carry . I have heard that juries have been particularly hard on people who use guns like that glop for self defense. They say it is OK to defend oneself, but it is a crime to do it with such an ugly gun. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's funny: I've got more than a few small carry guns - I'd never even imagine comparing my New Vaquero to them. They don't fill the same roles. I mean, I often drink a beer after work, but it's not the Barolo that I'm going to be having next week on my birthday.

Wow coming back to this thread to again look at those nice Ruger SAs. The birdshead is starting to make more sense to me for CCW now. Redlevel42 If you think that six-gun conceals easily with a belt holster, try an IWB. My Wife got me one for a 5-1/2" Vaquero Bisley several years ago & even that big six-gun becomes hard to see under even a light vest. It's the Ultra Cover holster. Many times I've carried a regular size SA with std grips & it really conceals easily. I hope this link works. www.epsaddlery.com/pc-76-9-ultra-cover-holster.aspxFrank

Nice 44-40... you did some work to it? (hammer and front sight?) I did 100% of all the work on this gun

Wow coming back to this thread to again look at those nice Ruger SAs. The birdshead is starting to make more sense to me for CCW now. I've been doing SASS/CAS for over 14 years and very good with a SA gun . In fact I'm better with a SA gun then a DA or bottom feeder . But SA gun are too big and heavy for me to carry 7/24 for my CCW . My chopped 44-40 is a perfect carry gun on a horse , farm tractor or trail bike . My Cimarrom "P" jr is light but only come in 38 Sp or 41 short .
