Hello Gents,
Just seeing if I'm off-base in my logic.
I've seen Ruger Only 45LC loadings and know the custom market handles even hotter loads in the 5 shot conversions.
Would it be folly to run these beyond Ruger Only 45LC loads in a 454 Casul (6-shot) wheel gun?
I'm thinking it would be OK but I have been known to be wrong on occasion.
Thanks for looking and stay safe,

If you have the mind to, you can run the 5-shot 45 Colt to around 60/65K psi and that's what the 454 can be run at, so I don't see a problem in the gun - maybe your wrist and or left ear might have another opinion when that puppy barks.

My only caution would be if you have large-ish chambers in that 6-shot (I'm assuming it's a Ruger SRH, or maybe a Taurus?)
My SRH chambers I think are on the large side, and I've split some 454 cases running at the top end. If they don't split, they have to be hammered out.
Colt brass is thinner than 454 brass, I thought. Might be more prone to splitting if you run them too hot.
Wouldn't hurt to try it, though. I've run pretty stout 45 Colt loads in my 7.5" SRH (too stout to shoot without pain in my short barreled 45 Blackhawk). The SRH soaks those up nicely, and they are very accurate.

Why not just load down the .454?

My two personal reasons would be 1) Not having to buy Casull brass, and all the loading accoutrements associated with a new cartridge, and 2) Not having to keep small rifle primers if you had no other use for them. Neither of these two stopped me from reloading 454 Casull, in addition to 45 Colt, though.

If its ok for 454C it will be ok for hot 5 shot 45C. You will want to clean the chambers really well if going back to 454 brass.
I don't care for the small primers in 454C brass ether, I gone to a 5 shot 45C where warm Ruger only loads are used and a 455GNR (475L necked down to .452") to get away from the small primer, compressed loads and high pressure for my top-end 454 type loads.

I forgot about that one! I stand corrected! Let's be honest, it's not a "real" gun per say. More of a novelty item that makes a great big boom.

Well to be honest Taurus isn't my first, second or even third choice when it comes to wheelies (S&W, Ruger then Dan Wesson). I'm hoping she is able to stand-up to the beating I've got planned for her
