I have been thinking that a Ruger bisley hunter cut down to 4 5/8 would make a good trail gun when hunting in grizzly country.... Griz country backup gun.... I hunt, fish, hike and berry pic in Griz country all the time. Whether I'm packing my rifle or the BisHunter the 4" 454 Redhawk is on my hip in a Simply Rugged pancake as my backup gun. Like a few others, it started life as a 45 Colt. I swapped out a SRH 454 Cylinder. Here's my 45's with some food I cooked up for em one day How is the trigger pull on the redhawk. I have always liked the look of them. Hadnt thought about the 4" version. I have an oppurtunity to buy back my OM bisley vaquerro in 45 lc it maybe the ticket. But after old grizz ate my deer and half of my hunting partners deer, I feel my 357 is way to small.

Looks like he already did gnaw on it! In a very delicate and creative way I might say. ;D

My 355gr wfn 45 Colt load is about 1100ish in the 4" Redhawk. To me the Redhawk DA trigger is great. Not as great as my buddies SRH 480 that's been worked over, but fine for me. I've done a little polishing but mainly lots of shooting and dry firing. SA is not quite as nice as the SBH but I can shoot the occasional 3rnd clover leaf at 25yds with a wrist rest shooting SA if I'm on my game. I did this at 47yds a while back. With open sites that's about as good as I can shoot at that distance. Redhawk shoots as good as I can I'd say. I did ream throats to .4525 and cut forcing cone to 11. The "454 Snyd" is just shortened 454 brass to 1.330 so this wfn will cycle in my 454 Puma levergun. My dual gun load. H110 Load workup with LilGun, 25yds.

It has been mentioned before here that Clements will not work on the Bisley Hunter. It is on his website under notes. Did anybody ever find out exactly why?

Thats almost the way I want it. Now to have it flat topped and the ring cuts filled. Oh and trail rider engraved where hunter is. I am about to get off my wallet.

Yep, I like the shorter barrel. I have a Bis Hunter in 44 magnum that I go back and forth on wanting to get rid of. I like shooting it, sometimes, but with a scope or red dot it is just way too muzzle heavy, and even without the scope it still doesn't feel right.
Now the 45 Colt Bis Hunter (which I've shot), that's a whole different story. With the 7.5" barrel, the balance feels very nice shooting offhand. Less metal in the barrel.
Still not a fan of on the barrel scope mounting. Makes me kinda wonder now why I bought the thing...

Anyone have a photo of a Hunter frame fit with a standard round barrel? I'm curious to see what it looks like since the Hunter has a squared front frame bridge. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
