Finally got a chance to test my 500 Linebaugh, 525 WFN load. I started with 25.0 of H110 which should be close to max. The initial session was 50 rounds through my SRH:   Here's a 5-shot group @ 25 yards:  I have no doubt the load and the gun can do better.....I wasn't "on" the other day. Nice work, Lee! That is a great bullet for the Linebaugh. We never used H110 in load development, but it looks to me that you are on to something that will work well!

Nothing wrong with that group from that sight radius!
Although you might do better on a "good day".

I should be clear. That was by far my best group of the day. The other 7 or 8 five-shot groups didn't print nearly as well (I kept pulling shots). If you exclude the "wanderers" I had some really nice three shot groups though  -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time" |

Thanks for the update. Looks like nice shootin to me!
Question.... have any of you guys done any load development with Lil'Gun and those 525ers? H110 and cold don't mix well.

Nothing wrong with that group from that sight radius! Although you might do better on a "good day". I've shot some excellent groups with 4" barreled revolvers and I bet Lee has as well. In fact Elmer prefer ed the 4" M-29 for long range shooting. Just depends on ones preference We all have bad shooting days on occasion |

You crazy Lee ;D That is great shooting with those big boomers! I shoot those 525's CBP out of my 50 AK Marlin with a muzzle break and that gun has recoil! Question ,in your opinion does shooting heavy bullets out of your revolvers beat the gun up?

No, the big bullets don't beat the gun up appreciably, but pressure can take its toll. There's a myth out there that these heavy bullets somehow damage revolvers. We use that same bullet in out .500 Maximums.

Whit's right. The gun absorbs pressure as applied to the sidewalls and case head. 35,000 PSI with a 435 grain bullet isn't any easier on the gun than 35,000 PSI with a 525. The gun "feels" pressure, not bullet weight. As long as operating pressure is kept in check, big bullets are just as safe as lighter slugs. Incidentally, the recoil for my 525 load isn't any worse than 435's @ 1,250 fps. Pressure is likely around 35K. Dang.... you guys are getting me all excited again! .510 400-525gr at 30-35000psi What a cartridge! It'll be real bad in a week or so. I've worked out a deal with wildwill to do some casting for him from his/our 430gr .512 mould. I can't hardly wait to drop some those big ol pills! He'll have loads all worked up by the time I get my gun! By then I'll prolly have a 500-525gr gc mould as well.

It amazes me what the 500 L does at such relatively low pressures. Don't the other 500's (JRH/WE) run a fair bit higher to achieve the same?

They're just running them faster and at consequently higher pressures. Of course the cases are a bit smaller, but you can run 'em easy like the .500 Linebaugh if so inclined -- even though the pressures may be a bit higher than the bigger .500 L. I too am impressed with the Linebaugh -- it is a relatively "effortless" cartridge.
