They're likely using a barreled test receiver, not a open gap revolver. I shouldn't doubt Hodgdon, but their velocities don't always add up. While I can't validate pressure, I've tested many of their loads and my chrono always falls way short. Now on to 33.0 grs of H110 under a 435 WFN in the 500L. I'm just starting to compress at 29.5 so another 3.5 grains would be heavily packed. Not saying it can't be done, but that's more than I'd want to push the round. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Other than brutal recoil and a lot of blast do the Linebaugh Longs really have much advantage over the standard length?

They satisfy that need to have the BIGGEST Seriously, I simply appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a well made custom and, so long as my budget holds out, I can't say no to a good deal..

I seriously considered having one built just because, but I think I'be talked myself out of it.

I built one for the same reason my hot rod has 2 four-barrels instead of one.....because I could squeeze a little extra power out of it. But joking aside, most are served fine by the standard Linebaughs. Some of us just want more and that's where the Maxs come in. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I can only vouch for two of them. I have a Bowen .475 max and I have shot one of John's. It was one of the first really big bore handguns I ever fired and it was quite an experience. It belonged to Rick Eliot. I don't know if anyone here knows Rick, but he doesn't load anything as light as the max load. The "more power", "bigger is better" angle of course played a role in going for the max, but the other advantage is that you can do what the standard length Linebaughs do at lower pressures.

I have a 475 maximum built by John Linebaugh.I don't shoot it due to being too crippled up.

Yo Anglia48! How about some pictures of that 475 Linebaugh Long.. After holding a Reeder 500 Max, I just might ask Gary Reeder to build me a 475..

A pair of Linebaugh Long's. 475 and 500. Unfortunately these don't make it out of the safe to often. Bob Denning ;D
