Ovate? Do I remember David Clements tooling up to do such things or was it Bowen? Either way is sounds like a lot of money.. A bit beyond what my bland palate and little money is up for.. You guys remember the ovate barrel that Bill Davis put on PPC guns way back when? Seems like he called it a Sidewinder..

Bowen told me a ribbed ovate barrel was 2K for the barrel alone. Snubbed up my hankering for one right fast.

Can a band/sight be added to an existing 5.5 barrel? I've got my eye on a Linebaugh 500L locally that's real close to what I want but it needs a couple things. It's got a 5.5 barrel and standard length ejector, wood grips. I still haven't totally ruled it out. Although there is a strange sort of small gap where the grip frame meets the frame. I may have to call John Linebaugh and talk to him about it.

You need to pick up that Linebaugh 500L and send it to me.. I need it as a companion piece for my Linebaugh 475.. Heck, I could even send it home for some of Dustin's sheep horn too!

There was a Bowen line bored .32-20 for sale last month with an ovate barrel and Fishpaw horn grips that sold for about $5200 if I'm not mistaken. Whew! I'll stick with my Smith barrels for the difference in cost.

That's a real work of art Lee. 475 or 500 and who did the wood? The grain is amazing! Thanks. It's a 500 Linebaugh with grips by Cary Chapman. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Dave Clements gets 500 for his ovate barrel with a flat rib. Not sure how Bowen adds 1500 more for his. My daughter has one on her 357 OM thanks her dad.

I am curous where that cost for an ovate ribbed barrel from Hamilton comes from. His website lists it at $795 in his special options section. At l east it did 5 minutes ago.

Yep, Clements ovate barrel is the same as an octagon and is produced on an EDM. I think Bowen's is done in a more traditional method. Possibly. Maybe. Doesn't do anything for me but it is definitely different.
Personally, it will be octagon all the way for me. I simply don't care for the looks of a banded barrel on a sixgun.

I prefer the banded barrel on the 475/500's and will not own an octagon or S&W barreled singla action. Had a FA M97 octagon. Just does not work for me. The Von Ringler Linebaugh holster carries the banded guns well.
