Quite a while back I joined this forum, but soon after let life drag me away. Now, I'm back. Me and my beloved 4 5/8 inch .45 Colt New Vaquero.
In my younger days a Blackhawk .44 Mag (5 1/2") rode on my hip everywhere (...in the woods). Well, sometimes there was my Single Six...
After a while I noticed that I was carrying .44 Special loads more often than the magnums. When one of my friends became enamored with the .44 I sold it to him & bought a Vaquero in .45 Colt, this time with a longer barrel. That is when the love affair with the big ol' .45 began.
About 10 years ago things were getting rough in our city, but fortunately we have CCW available to law-abiding citizens. Never being one for those new fangled slab guns I made the trade to my current Ruger which has been my carry gun ever since. Not your "normal" choice in carry weapons, but it is reliable, danged accurate, powerful enough for the job, and after all of these years a single action is like part of my arm. Either arm.
Loads? Roll my own, though I really do like the Hornady flex-tip numbers in this revolver. Generally, though, I load the Penn
"Thunderhead" over a powder load I won't mention (It is reasonable pressure load. I'm just being safe by not publishing it.) in Starline brass. It is the most amazingly accurate load I've shot! The guys at the range get a kick from it when I plink at the long range gongs with this flat-nosed monster bullet as it literally screams its way down-range. ;D I even hit the gongs more often than not!
Oh yeah! That's one of Rob Leahy's Sourdough Pancake holsters in the photo. Mighty fine bit of gear for carrying a big single action concealed. Eventually I really want to try those RCBS SAA 270gr boolits. Don't know if - or when - I'll get a casting set up together, though.
Well, that's my post for the day. If you've got any complaints/ideas/suggestions then go ahead and post them! If you are a HAM operator, then look for me on the 17 Meter band as KK4AXX.
