Bob,
Yea, Rolf was a big guy alright. 6'10" and about 350 pounds. He held the Waseca scoring record in Basketball for many years, he had a wonderful hook shot. He related a story to me once about a pick-up three on three in Northfield, MN where he went to college. Bill Musselman former U of M and NBA coach wanted to play ... and they were going to play until his three man team from the U won! The games went on for hours and Musselman wouldn't quit, finally Rolf had to go to class. When he went to law school out west (I think it was in Washington) one of his law school classmates was the imfamous Ted Bundy ...not Al. He loved leverguns, single action revolvers and break open revolvers. Before he died he sold me his Webley .45 with birdshead grip, the classic from the Victorian era of the British Empire. He loved flying and built half a dozen home-built kit planes. Helped import about two dozen Antonov AN-2 bi-planes, he also owned one (google it-they are impressive ...1,000HP radial engine in the nose and seating for 20!) We used to get together on Friday after work in his law office after I closed the barber shop and talk well into the night. On one particular evening when I got there he said he had to make a call to Idaho about an airplane he was interested in. So, I sit down and listen in. It was a four place high wing job and it sounded like he would rent a car and go look at it. But, knowing his size might be an issue he asked the fellow how much room was in the cockpit? Oh, there is plenty of room, was the reply. How big of a guy are you? About 5'8" and 200 pounds. So, how much room would you have if you were about a foot taller and had three 50 pound bags of dog food strapped to your waist? (I am grinning thinking about him as I type) Rolf was perhaps the most brilliant person that I have ever met. Funny doesn't cover it. If he was in a room with Leno, Letterman, Fallon, Kimmel, Ferguson, et al ... They would all leave the room because they didn't have a chance! Or they stay all night knowing they were going to be entertained by the Master! The only ethical Attorney I ever met, other than his father.
Life was much more fun around here before his passing.
