Well my "Quest" gun from John Linebaugh came home last night. It started as one of John's early 475 conversions I found for sale here in Oregon so I sent it back to John along with a brass bisley grip frame and a Bowen rear sight to get it freshened up. While it took awhile due to John's medical issue, I am more than pleased with the outcome. John himself took on building the new walnut stocks for this gun and reshaping the bisley gripframe. While he does not consider himself a stockmaker per se, he said he would be willing to talk to customers about doing stocks for their guns that he is building. It is obvious where Dustin got his grip making talent.

What a beautiful custom. I wish there was a steady supply of brass Bisleys. Also, do you know the year of the original conversion? -Lee www.singleactions.com

Very nice Rob!
How much work did he do on the grip frame?
I like the walnut with the brass but I think I'm going to try buffalo horn first.

I asked John last year when I bought the gun what year he made it and he had the info but I did not write it down. I know it is a 2 digit conversion though.

Pretty sweet!
Did he re-shape the backstrap and the stocks? The second picture shows a little "wiggle" about 2/3's of the way down the backstrap & stocks. Is this to allow a little more room for the fleshy part of your hand below your thumb? I have not seen that before.

Yes he does reshape the grip frame. John has smaller hands like I do and he feels that this reshaping puts a nice contour where it fills the hollow of your hand but still lets a guy wrap his fingers around the slightly smaller section. Kind of like Elmer Keith and his carved grip panels to fill that swell in the hand.

It would take me hours to shoot that one. Actually, shooting it wouldn't take that long but I'd have to look at it for hours first.
Superb gun, Robb.

John was kind enough to share his two pet loads for the 475 so I want to try and get some of those loaded up and see what they are like.
