Lee,
When you heat treat cylinders how do you handle the dimensional changes in the material?

17-4 is age-hardened and is carried out at low temperature (and there's no oil quenching). As such, there's virtually no distortion or shrinkage....that which does occur averages only 0.0004". -Lee www.singleactions.com

LEE, if you ever went into business doing these conversions, I'd buy the firs t5 you did, I've amassed that many guns to be converted to something different since I started working in a gun shop

Lee, when we rechambered my OM 357 cylinder to 45 Colt I drew up the cylinder in 3D on my cad program and designed some carbon electrodes. We then used the electrodes in a EDM machine that has x,y,z, and c axis. Almost a polished finish right out of the machine. The C Axis rotates the electrode while the machine orbits it in the x and y axis at the same time traveling in the z axis. Not as fast as the way you do it but comes out nice.

Wow then, LEE, are you sure you don't want to reicarnate the Seville?

I don't know why, but I've always pictured the flutes as something that was cut by a stone wheel. This machine makes more sense. Thanks for another educational update.

Lee, do you fire proof loads in your guns when the build is finished?
