Is it hard to grind the old lettering off and engrave with a new caliber?

Axe.....I never re-inscribe the guns. Since I don't do this as a business, I leave the original markings. In that case, do you ever forget which caliber your custom guns really are? I know I would.

Is it hard to grind the old lettering off and engrave with a new caliber? Not hard with a surface grinder. I actually have a Gorton engraver that'll replicate factory lettering. May try it on my next conversion. -Lee www.singleactions.com

In that case, do you ever forget which caliber your custom guns really are? Not yet. I used to engrave the cylinders like on this 38-40: It looks nice, but adds another step. Haven't done one like it in probably 10 years. -Lee www.singleactions.com

You have a Gordon Engraver? Is it 3-D? You could engrave the new caliber on the barrel.

Drag racing season is finally over, so I'll be getting back to guns. It'll get finished this weekend....I promise. This project has taken way too long. -Lee www.singleactions.com

More updates…. After installing the barrel, the cylinder gap came it at 0.0005” (which is too tight). The barrel was pulled and 0.001” was taken off the shank. Final gap = 0.0015” The ejector housing was then marked and the screw hole was drilled & tapped: -Lee www.singleactions.com
