Hey guys...I'm taking my flagship series, SHOOTING GALLERY, to 1 hour for Season 12 (good grief, where does the time go?) in 2012. I've asked my dear friend Hamilton Bowen to let me film a comprehensive gun build for the new expanded show. He's suggested a classic .500 Linebaugh 5-shot on a Bisley Ruger. Sounds good to me, but I thought I'd I'd put it out for comments...

Sounds great! Be sure to have him demonstrate applying a black powder cylinder chamfer. Amazing to watch him freehand that little detail.
I've got a couple of .475 octagon barrels in the back of the safe....... Tim

Just a newbie here, but I'll definitely tune in! Nimrod would be nice...

Michael- great idea!
A Nimrod would be my choice - I think it's Mr. Bowen's finest.

If were going with the best he's got, I would love to see a stainless bisley Chambered in .50spl with a S&W barrel and a welded up top strap re-contoured to a single six style. add some fire blue small parts, a little engraving and finish it off with some carved Ivory one piece grips (yes I think Bowen could rework a bisley grip frame to take them). Just let me know when its done so I can pick it up!

Remember Bowen does not build the octagon barrels for his guns, he buys them from Gallager so watching him turn a barrel banded gun would be better because he makes them in house. I think it would be a great show, the first show you did with Hamilton back in the day is, in my never humble opinion the best Shooting Gallery show you have ever done.

I know why Hamilton doesn't mess with cutting his own octagonals. My dad and I have done a few from 1" barrel blank and it's a lot of work. Not only do you have to mill the flats, but then we finish them on a surface grinder. That's followed by polishing. It's not a horrible process, but you need to be set-up for it. Otherwise it isn't cost effective to do it yourself...remember, he uses good blank and that isn't cheap. -Lee www.singleactions.com
