Just thought I would share some thoughts on the "new" forum.
I have been shooting for 40 years and have always enjoyed guns.....mostly single action Rugers. I am not very knowledgeable on gunsmithing issues, but I am learning. I am also not rich....I am disabled and stable as far as money goes, but again a long long ways from rich. So I am pretty much limited to Rugers that I improve myself. Again though, I don't have the current ability to do any real custom work.
I reload 45 ACP, 45 Colt, 38/357, and 44 spec. and mag. I used to cast my own bullets, but am just not able any more.
I enjoy reading the great gun writers of our time including Mr. Taffin. I have most of his books. His writing has brought me back to the hobby from several years of indifference.
I usually speak my mind......sometimes too much!
So what does all this have to do with the "new" forum.....?
I consider myself a "normal" gun owner. I am not a collector - I shoot most of what I have. I will never have the custom guns that many of you have, but really enjoy seeing them in the forum.
This forum is somewhat intimidating due to the high percentage of knowledgeable people who post, the "big names" who post here, and just the number of you who have some really, really, really nice custom guns. A lot of you have forgotten more than most of the rest of us will ever know.
However, the intimidation factor above is what makes this forum a great reference source. The knowledge here is second to none on the internet. I know that I can ask a question and someone will have an answer. I also feel that if my question is asked from an honest lack of knowledge viewpoint, that I will receive a civil answer and not be flamed.........and I think that this is what can make this a great forum.
However I also think that someone who comes in here to try to BS his way in, is in trouble. There are idiots on most forums on the internet, I am a mod/admin on several Jeep/ham forums and know what can happen when the idiots attack. I believe this will never happen on this forum as they will be singled out and dealt with quickly.
The new forum is turning out to be a great place to learn and converse about guns. Not much drama and that is the way I like it. I think it is and will be one of the good ones.
Thanks Lee for making it happen!

hutchman I think of this forum and it's members much the same way as you do. I have been called "a wealth of useless information" buy family and friends and I am prowed of it. I can put my two cents in around here and right or wrong I won't get flamed, corrected maybe but not flamed. We can take and give a good jab too, without it getting rude. Anything from "ugly feet", "avatars that give us nightmares", to boneheaded statements and stupid deeds. It's all fun, given and taken as such.

Another sign we must be doing something right. My dad lurks here occasionally. And that's saying something....at 66 years old he's convinced he has no need for computers or online anything. -Lee www.singleactions.com
