Pulled the grips off and took a few pictures of the plastic grip frame. Turns out the grip frame and the trigger guard are a single piece of molded plastic. Interesting construction, Cylinder frame is aluminum. Barrel, cylinder, hammer, trigger, etc are steel.

This history stops at 1990, but still provides a lot of insight, plus the author is a very nice guy. unblinkingeye.com/Guns/CAR/car.htmlThe grip frames (borrowed from High Standard) on all models is still the same. Any Charter revolver grip should fit any Charter revolver. The trigger, hammer and innards are still all the same, as is the cylinder catch. If you disassemble it, take a magnifying glass and look at both ends of the pins in the frame. You will note that one end of each pin is splined and must be driven out so the spine is not driven through the whole gun. A tiny bit of BLUE Loctite on the spline end upon reassembly is a good idea. I've only once sent a gun back to Charter to be fixed, but I've ordered parts several times over the years. The last time I ordered a couple of the countersunk screw that holds the adjustable rear sight on. The nice lady would not take my money. Once when I e-mailed with a question, Mr. Ecker himself called me to answer it. Very personable fella. Every Charter I've owned was very accurate, except one from the Charco days in 32 Mag. I GAVE that one away with a bag of 1,000 32 Mag cases I sold. I do wish I had back every Charter revolver I ever owned and there are a few of the older ones I'd like to own that I didn't have. They were so cheap and so plentiful, especially used, that I took them for granted. The front lockup of the cylinder is at the front of the CYLINDER, not at the end of the ejector rod. Bone simple and very effective. When checking the alignment of throats to the bore, keep the trigger held back. The pawl bears on the ratchet and does not allow the cylinder to wiggle - when it matters most. Many wiggle the cylinder without the trigger back and complain they are "loose." Of course they are at that stage and it doesn't matter when the hammer and trigger are at rest.

I'll pull the grips off and get us some more pictures. While you're in there! The EXPOSED side of the hammer spring can and often does contact the inside of the grip and can give an intermittent glitchy feel to the cocking action. I bust out the Dremel and cut kind of an angled clearance in the left grip panel.

There were or are, full size Pachy Presentation grips. Nabbed a set at a gun show years ago for my Bulldog. I grabbed them for longer strings of fire, that never happened. Like the Compacs too much.

I have a set of those and do not know how or why I came to own them. They're HUGE and don't fit my hand, I think it was one of those times my dad was messing with me and stuck them in one of my boxes as we packed up after a gun show. I can't complain. I've left oddball car parts in his shop every once in a while just to mess with him.
Even the compact is a bit large for me and I dearly wish they'd make the "Professional" version of the compact for Charter like they do for Smith. They have the exposed backstrap and really are compact. I have a set for the Service/Speed Six and they were just right on those guns for me too.
