I favor long barrels as well. My BFR .454 sports a 7.5" and only wish it was 10" and my .41 mag bisley is 5.5" and I wish it was at least 7.5" or more. Longer sight radius is nice plus the added performance is nice too

7.5-10” barrels feel best, and to me, point better at longer hunting ranges. They balance especially well with a scope over the cylinder, but not as much out over the barrel.

Longer barrel lengths great for the longer sight radius for more accurate shooting. Now if you red dot or scope is there a need for the longer barrel? You gain a bit more velocity, but the shorter barrel packs easier…. Wsy?

I'm short so, for packing a 7 1/2 in. barrel feels as if I'm wearing a fence post on my hip. For that I have preferred the 5 1/2 for 40 years.
Sitting in a stand/blind or at a bench shooting distance I prefer the 7 1/2 but no longer. If I recounted what my oldest son and I did with a 7 1/2 Ruger BH in 45 Colt and a Colt New Frontier in 44 Spl. most might not believe me but, I think on this forum there is a significant amount of long range experience and many have probably done more at greater distances.

In thinking about longer sight radius, my eyes are not very iron sight friendly anymore, so a 5.5” barrel with an optic might be as good a choice for hunting as a 7.5”. It might not be good for a scope objective to be 2” closer to the muzzle though. Any of you guys have a 5.5” revolver with a scope mounted ?

I'm a fan of 7.5" barreled revolvers. OM Blackhawks, 45 Colt 30 Carbine OM Super Blackhawk,
US Arms Riverhead Abilene 44 magnum.
But I have various barrel lengths and calibers from a 3.5" Uberti CMS 45 Colt El Patrone up to 9.5" OM Single Six.
