James, back in those days you were probably the only guy in Jersey that owned a 44 magnum Dick Dick, I`ve always said New Jersy is a lonely place for a handgun hunter............... You should try Portland Oregon. Just Try and find somebody, that has more than a passing interest in shooting Powerful revolvers. I do about 90% of my shooting by myself. Lots of guys into ARs and Glocks. But not many into revolvers... I trade Barbs with the Glock crowd. One will say that .357 in Obsolete. I answer said no one with a hole in his chest...tj

I've heard that the 357 mag was obsolete before too. Until I banged the hundred yard gong 18 times in a row, then told him to try. A mag (17rds) later he had nothing to say.
A few months later he was there with a new GP100.

I rarely go to a range here with some friends from work, but when I do all of them want to borrow my guns.
Of course the sbr got attention, who doesn't love full auto suppressor fire, but my smaller single actions are a favorite. The real attention getter was a 5'2" 120 pound office girl cracking off 5 from the 500 Linebaugh then asking for a reload. Of course now all the guys had to try it.
They all thought it was a pussy cat with 355's at 750. Then a few of the macho man younger guys who own 44's asked for the real stuff. My 46,000psi 525gr hunting loads was a new experience for them!
Everyone had a ball. One guy who hunts with a 454 is now awaiting a Reader 500 Redhawk.

NY metro area has a good amount of revolvers, but they're mostly guys' dad or grandpa's NYPD S&W Model 10 or a snubbie CCW .357 or .38. Very few single actions.
I know lots of gun guys here, but I only know 1 in person, an old-timer RO, who has taken deer with a revolver, a 6" S&W 29. And only 2 with anything more powerful than a .44 Mag. Both work at gun stores. One owns a .500 S&W BFR with a long barrel, and the other guy owns a S&W .460 XVR snubbie.

Every time you post I'm always a little surprised I've not run in to you in some remote patch of woods somewhere. I keep expecting to, subconsciously.

About 25 years ago...I think, I was down at our range shooting at a 6" steel swinger target at 100 yds with a S&W 629DX using Keith cast bullets & 10 grs of Unique. My eyes were good back then, the trigger was superb & I was keeping it moving with every shot, it was pretty easy back then. I had the range to myself until 2 old crooked kneed cowboys pulled up & wanted to put up a couple of targets. I waited until they got back & then started hammering the swinger again & then I noticed they were standing behind me, it appeared that they were surprised I was hitting that little piece of steel with my revolver. Earlier I had been shooting a USPSA target at 300 yds & it was still down range. A 629DX is a very accurate six gun with good loads & this one was no different, all you had to do was point it in the general direction of the target & it would track it down. Off to the left of the 300 yd USPSA target was a 9X12 paper target that someone had left lying on the ground. I figured I could come pretty close since I had already been shooting at that distance earlier. Today I'm about the same age as those 2 old cowboys but back then my eyes were good & the trigger on that DX was as crisp as frozen lettuce. I lit the switch & to our surprise, both of them & mine as well, I hit that piece of paper, it lifted into the air & drifted a bit but clearly it was a hit. Two or three days later I walked into the post office & the post master recounted the story, just like it happened, one of those old cowboys was her husband!

Understand, have used up way too much vacation time visiting family that moved to the mouth of the Alifia, Gibsonton. Now have Sis in West Palm Beach. Sure wish they would have moved to Montana or the U.P. or..etc..sigh. No offense meant, but am born and raised and stayed in the snow belt regions.
