Beautiful. Not only do you allow the horses & mules to transport you into the back country,, they can transport you back in time if you just feel it. Looks like y'all were feeling it! 100% I am one of the people moving to Montana that doesn't want it to change in fact I want it to go backwards. Most of the books that I read for fun are about settlers, trappers, ranchers, indians, bears and what it was like 50-200 years ago. But I want my cake and to eat it too....go back in time but have the more modern firearms (Pre 64 Winchester, Ruger revolvers, etc)

Oh, what are you using to take these pics ? I've not been to Bob Marshall yet. One day... I like this region more than the glacier region as you can see more. So I'll have to get to Bob Marshall at some point. And all the pictures I've taken and posted here are from my Samsung S22 Ultra. It will do more than what I've done with it. Crazy good camera.

That is some beautiful country but if I had to go in on horseback it would take me a month to walk right again. It looks like a great time by all and great memories for sure. Showing how soft I am now I see your pics going through the brush and I also thought man at the chiggers, not sure if y’all have them in numbers but I am itching now just thinking about them.

I think many of us have a spot in our hearts for that feeling.
Just last night,, we were watching ""1883 the Yellowstone Origin." Miss Penny said; "I think Taylor Sheridan was born in the wrong century. He should have been an old time cowboy."
I softly muttered; "He ain't alone."
But I know life was different, and hard back then too. We've grown accustomed to our little modern things that we take for granted,, yet would have been almost un-imagineable back then. Indoor plumbing, indoor running water, easy hot water, modern medicines, smokeless powders, reliable primers, easy casting equipment & reloading equipment,, etc. Yep,, go back in time somewhat,, but with some of the things we dearly cherish now.

My brother is 48. He wasn't walking right after the 14 miles in. 😁 We walked out to fly fish Hell Roaring Creek the first evening and it looks like we were at karate class the way we were swarmed with bugs and trying to keep them off. We failed to bring the spray that evening but not again.

Awesome trip.. great to see & compare what guys are carrying too
Nothing like packin in on a mountain trip far as I'm concerned... this year is 3 years since I've taken my horses out on a mountain trip (life happened, kids etc) but climbed the big hills for 10-straight hunting sheep before that. The only way to top a trip like you guys just had would be if a guy had tags in his pocket! ha
Terrific Post

You can get all 4 seasons in one week. Animals are frisky. The guide said he's had a lot of hunters adjust their expectations for an animal or even quit on the goat/sheep hunts. It's a lot more than they expected. I haven't done it yet but I've had my butt handed to me looking for bears trying to keep up in thin air and steep terrain. The young guys I was following acted like it was nothing.

I commissioned that .45 vaquero from Dustin when I was living on Kodiak.
Glad to see it's still out in the backcountry.

I don’t ride. But I spend a pile of time in the back country backpacking here in Wyoming. It’s awesome.

Great post! Always amazed me how much more country you see riding horseback. Not so much the distance but the constant unobstructed view and not having to always look where you are stepping. Of course i was never the lead either.

Looks like the Dustin vaquero that lived here in Oregon for a year or two. Agree with the thought that you get to see so much more from the back of a good horse or even better, a good mule. It is amazing how many critters your ride will see before you do.
