The locks are easy to disable, and the MIM parts, while ugly, are velvet smooth in use. In addition the guns shoot well and the throats and bore diameters are consistent. I don't like the locks. I also don't like power door locks, power windows, catalytic converters and electronically controlled computer operated fuel systems. A good portion of what industry sees as "innovation" ain't. An even bigger portion of what government dictates and lawyers suggest is pure excrement... I'm keeping my retro N frames and my 500.

brand new M38 , checking to make sure everything works , the lock locked ok , but the KEY was untempered so it wouldn't unlock cause the key deformed on the 1st use... i sold all my schiess und weasels the next day , and will never buy another...

You know, Smith would have fixed it for nothing, I've had good luck with their warranty department, even on guns I bought used (and knew they were broke when I got them)
