I would read Dick Metcalf`s article`s on 22 mags in handguns and he always finished be saying that it would be best to use a six inch barrel when shooting 22 mags from revolvers. So on July 26, 1993 with a 80 degree temperature at my range I chrono graphed CCI 40gr JHP in my S&W K and J frame 22`s with mag/LR cylinders. The four inch J frame averaged 1152fps for six shots while the six inch K frame averaged 1402fps for six shots for a 250fps increase. I can see why D.Metcalf said to use the 6" barrel. Also shot Winchester 40gr jhp 22 mag ammo from six inch K frame with a six shot average of 1292fps which is a bit slower then the CCI brand. Since this all took place 30 years ago the velocities on today`s 22 mags may be a bit different....PS- Federal Hi Vel 22lr ammo gave a six shot average of 1079fps from 4" J frame while the same ammo gave a six shot average of 1101fps from 6" K frame.... Go figure...................

James.... do not recall seeing factory checkered DWA grips. Most tasteful, practical factory checkering in ages.
DWA learned in Monson the difficulty of producing silhouette accuracy from a revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle, a cartridge incredibly sensitive to dimensional irregularity, alignment, and roughness. By comparison, it is so much easier to achieve accuracy in centerfire. Proportionately, sensitivity to the ORCHESTRA of DIMENSIONS grows as bore diameter shrinks.
This is why a proper S&W K-22 (commonly called Model 17 these days), and the old Colt Officer’s Model Match .22 Long Rifle remain the benchmark for rimfire revolver accuracy. Any gun that accurate has the wind in all its sails. The Freedom Arms M-252 (Model 83 in .22 LR), takes attention to dimensional detail at step higher. David Bradshaw

David Bradshaw Davie, When talking with the DW collector, we both agreed that the previous owner had someone checker those grips after buying (to my benefit)..... Was looking at DW specs for 22 lr and mag and both barrels use 1:18 3/4" right hand twist and then found a DW 10" barrel for sale on the CZ/DW website that lists the barrel for either 22 lr or Mag.....
