One of my grandson's went fishing for a few days with his girlfriend & her dad & they caught some nice Steelhead. For those of you that don't know what a Steelhead is, its an Ocean run Rainbow Trout. They spawn in Idaho rivers & streams & then spend about 2 years growing in the ocean before migrating back several hundred miles back to where they were born & spawn. They can get pretty big. The one my grandson is holding is a female & the other two are large males & they can really fight. The girl always out fishes everybody & she fishes from daylight til dark. Dick

Those are great pictures. Is that west of the Mississippi? I went once in New York. They are acrobatic and a hoot to keep on the hook.

Tyrone, I thought you fished with a 7/30 Waters! Rey, I'm not sure about the regulations but I think you have to release the wild ones & you can keep a hatchery one, might be wrong. The F&G clips a fin on the ones they raise & release before they return back down into the Columbia & on to the ocean. Again, I might be wrong on this about the rules. I know they are real fighters, we caught one once on a spring bear hunt & it was quite a show getting it landed on my light pack rod, we had to do a lot of running up & down the river bank to keep up with it.

I'm still surprised they run that far ! I live on and drive across several rivers with runs of steelhead daily, but Lake Erie run, not ocean. Yours seem to run a size larger ! That one male..wow ! Looks like those Mongolian, Siberian fish, Taimen ? It's early for me, a 2nd shift person, so memory and spelling suspect.

Tyrone, I've shot a lot of Carp over the years using several different calibers & its a real hoot, at least on my end! The very first thing I shot with my new Shootist 44 special was several big carp that were cruising the shore of the Bear River 30 feet below an old abandoned railroad bridge. I had to shoot down between the railroad ties & when I hit them with that big Keith cast HP parts of them would land up on the bank & some parts would almost hit my dangling feet. Before long I would have Seagulls (Mormon Ducks) landing on the water down river from me cleaning up the pieces.

In the bird world the females are bland compared to the males. Seems not to be in this case. All are beautiful fish.

kev, yes, its way west of ole miss, its in Idaho. And to make matters worse we live down in the south east corner of the state, close to Utah & Wyoming & they are fishing way up north. Its a good 400+ miles up there, one way.

Dick I was thinking that may be near the coast. Didn't realize you had them there. Learn something every day.

Great pictures of outdoor adventures Dick. Son and his BIL were steelhead fishing in Idaho a couple of weeks ago. They had been going every year in the spring but had missed the last couple of years. It can be slow going at times but they've never been skunked.
