My college roommate had a 30 some gallon tank with Oscar’s and a few other fish in it. We were both biology students so when one of the fish ended up with a parasite on its side I told him how I had used wet clothes to keep fish alive while I did blood cell counts in their tail during a lab so we sterilized a needle and scalpel, caught the patient, wrapped him up in wet cloth and performed a parasite exorcism on it on the kitchen table then back in the tank it went no worse for wear.

another benefit of having all the aquariums, was having the best of the houseplants... the house we lived in before we moved to the farm, had big windows on the south & east sides, corner windows in the living room... doing all the water changes & vacuuming gravel, gave me gallons of fertile plant water... in that house, the living room actually looked like a jungle... some vines were 50-60 ft long, when we moved from there... in all honesty the house plants have been suffering inconsistent watering, with Mrs. doing those chores... so I'm expecting a big gain in the house plants over this next summer...
part of the problem with where my aquariums were built in, was in the basement, which is kinda like a master living space... bedroom, dressing area, bathroom, & laundry... so "most" company would never see them... right now I have a 45 gallon, & a 65 gallon, sitting empty ( not built in ), that I'm considering setting up where we currently have our house plants, off the living room... depending on how the tropical water lilies go, I may add some to that tank, but thinking lots of live plants & maybe Discus or Angels in that tank??? so others can see it...

on the Maple syrup thing... I planted 4 "Sugar Maples" in the center of my turn around loop... 5-7 years ago... we have dozens of soft Maples... I've thought about tapping them... Sugar Maples are slower growing & are making it, so far, but are not too common in southern Minnesota... but I know several around here do tap the soft Maples ( assume they are good, just probably have a lower sugar content, so they cook down more ) I've also heard the Indians around here used to tap Box Elder trees... assume the same is true for them, as the soft Maples... we used to have a lot of Box Elders on the farm, but I've been replacing them with more desirable trees over the years

The maples are all are suger producers on average suger’s more and the softs less but in the Right location and water that can be reversed.

I'm also certified, & have dove at Grand Caiman, Jamaica, & Florida, but as a resident of MN, & married to the farm, I have dove before at Lake Okoboji, IA and a few gravel pits around here, but lake diving is nothing like the ocean... I just never get off the farm anymore... started lambing this year already... these guys are only 2-3 days old here... now at a week, they are running & jumping over each other Okoboji’s a cool place, spent a summer out there when our company owned some grain elevators in the area. Probably the coolest thing (outside of the usual fun someone in their mid 20’s gets into) was one of the boats from Miami Vice in the water there!
