That's a rather familiar story Bob!! When I was a kid, my dad had a small Beretta 25acp and he would attempt to show mom how to sink a floating can in the lake. He would do a great job of scaring the fool out of the can but nonetheless, the can would still be floating!! My mom would sink it first shot and hand the gun back to him with a smile . . . smug as it was !!! I'd just giggle . . . Mike My first gun was a pump action Rossi 22 back in the mid 70's. My father and I would throw a can out in the field. We would do just okay hitting it. Then my Mom took it one day. She is a city girl. Never shot before. She made that can dance pumping rapidly and spot on. She is a natural showing us up and never let me forget.

I got started at about age 11 when I was allowed to shoot tin cans with a Single Six. I had a bb pistol of some variety most of my teenage years, and we shot that single six occasionally. When I turned 18, I ended up getting a Ruger Blackhawk in 357 magnum. I traded it pretty quick, then I got a Single Six and I stuck with it a good while. I got decent with it and then my confidence and skill moved to other guns. I'm still learning and perfecting my technique. I'm still doing a lot of shooting with the single six.
I don't think I ever was taught proper hold of a pistol or technique other than some of the instructions that came in several firearms manuals I had. I have learned mostly by researching techniques online and figuring out what works and doesn't work.
I am much better than most people, but I want to be as good as the best, not better than your average joe.
