Nice work, I bet there's a lot of interest here. Your points on the difficulties selecting material are well taken.
For me I'm generally not into grip replacing but I like the appearance of antler grips on a looker, but on a shooter I prefer smooth grips. To that end I've considered figured buffalo horn grips but they're rather uncommon.

Bison horn will dry out and flake horribly. So will water buffalo to a lesser extent. If you like smooth stocks, here are some elk stocks, with no bark. I prefer smooth stocks on my revolvers. Kevin

That looks amazing makes me want to get a snub nose double action just to dress it up with those! My eyes have been attracted to antler grips since forever but I never bought them concerned they'd self destruct under recoil. I've had them in plastic though from guns on trade but they look fake, like a mannequin of a real model and I ditched them.

I use elk on most of my revolvers. Never had a problem. They are not inexpensive but neither are factory wood stocks. Kevin

Antler is a lot tougher than wood.

Can you make one of those grip adapters to fit a new model Blackhawk?

There are guns and then there are serious guns. That Fitz is serious.

I have NEW service that has the Colt wood grips. I would love a set of Elk Stag grips for it. And I could drive up there and bring you the gun.
