serialsolver, nice rifle!!
My number one meat getter is an old SMLE that I cut down to 16 inches, customized the stock, added a recoil pad too, cut the mag down to 5 rounds, and added a scope. It has a .200 free bore chamber, .006 head space and still shoots 2 5/8ths groups at 200yrds. Plenty accurate for Whitetail especially when a long shot for me in TN woods is 90yrds ;D
My number two meat getter, just because I've carried it less, is a '94 Trapper in 45 Colt. I used to have a Leupold 2x7x33 on it, but my cousin liked it so much we put it on his SMLE that I cut down to 18 inches. It now wears a Baraska 3x9 compact that works great in dense woods....
My number three meat getter would be my Ruger 10-22 SS in the laminated green/black stock. This would be my SHTF gun should I ever have to head to the woods and survive!!
Sorry, can't find any pics at the moment. I thought I had some somewhere??

Model 700 converted to single shot 7MM-08 with Pacnor barrel and fully blueprinted action, sleeved bolt and fiberglass stock. When I want to shoot the 7Mag it is this Browning B-78 single shot with Canjar trigger. Both rifles wear Leupold glass. This gun and the 1962 Model 700 in 7 mag shoot have only shot one load therei entire life. Just shy of 70 grains of H4831 and a Nosler 150 grain partition. The only rifle reloading components I have for the two 7 mags. Between my father, who I inhereted the Browning from, and myself for than a few elk have found a home in the freezer.

boxhead, I was able to get my Whelen shooting 3/4" with some br techniques that were unrealistic IMO for hunting(Light neck tension, long oal, big scope, etc.). In hunting form, 2-7 Leupold, a 225 Nosler part. @ 2615 it shot about the same as yours. Those 2 fine looking bulls tell me that your load is more than "just fine". BTW I have no experience with Barnes, do you get pass throughs with broadside shots on elk size game? The elk shown was shot while he was facing me straight on, a shot I do not like and have always passed on waiting for at least some angle. The elk made one leap away at the shot and dropped dead. The bullet did not pass though and was not found though it had put a rather large hole through its heart. The moose was taken broadside at ~150 yards. The bullet entered low on the shoulder breaking it and passing through the off shoulder to be found just under the hide there. The moose stood for a bit at the shot then fell over dead. The bullet took a beating as you can see here. The two medium size black bear taken with the Whelen were pass throughs using the 250 gr Speer, again both DRT. A nilgai running balls, out as they often do, tumbled dead using the 250 gr Partition which passed through. A great round that is for sure.

I have two that are my favorites. My first is a Marlin 336 in .35 Remington that I have had since I was 14 years old. The second is a Ruger RSI in .308 wearing a Leupold 2X7. Pardon the shoes in this pic!

My new favorite is a rifle I've wanted for 30 yrs but never got around to getting one. It is a Model 70 Featherweight Deluxe in 270 from Winchester's new plant. It is beautiful. I'm so taken with its looks I want to get one in 30-06 and have it converted to 338-06 now that it is a factory round. Don't need one but that never stopped me before. A 250 gr Barnes MRX bullet with a tungsten core should handle anything in N. America.

The 338-06 is a fine round and I would have zero concern hunting anything in North America with mine and the 210 gr Partition. It just seems the two were made for each other.
