Thanks again to lar4570 and his generosity for posting these pics. The load shown is a 124gr HPGC that I resized to .311 and loaded it over 3.1grains of 231/HP38 and a standard CCI primer. COAL is 1.54" and it's a light load for this elderly Smith to fire. Had to seat the bullet fairly deep due to bullet ogive and the chambering of this Smith. Frank will receive his package back this week, probably Thursday. Will grab a photo of him with his "operating" family heirloom. 1915 and she's still mechanically sound. Only Superman can get all the potential out of the sights, though. A Single Seven if one were to pursue 32s with fine accuracy as a goal. IMHO Thanks again for your help and interest in this project. Tom This has given me some inspiration I have maybe the same model but is nickel plated. It was inherited from my Grand father thru my dad who passed in 2005. I have yet to fire it. I also have a Buckeye in .32 cal. I have fired very little. The .32 Mag. cylinder has been opened to .327 Mag. I need to put down that .41 and shoot something a little milder, even though loud.

richp: YOU CAN REALLY PUSH A 32-20 IN A BUCK-EYE. Yea you can, talk about a loud and rude cartridge? A 140gr Ferminator at 1600fps is really something, not meant for old Smiths…

I bypassed this post initially because I don't have a 32-20 and am trying to avoid the temptation to add another chambering - another mouth to feed as I near "retirement-age" myself.
If you need some more bullets, I usually have a stock of two appropriate cast bullets (come out of the mould at .313") I could share. One is a RCBS, 98 grain SWC and the other is a LEE ("soup can") C309113, which has had the gas check shank rebate removed, to make it a plain-base and weights 118 grains. I haven't used the RCBS in a long time, but the LEE bullet is a favorite of my 30/30, doing about 1200 fps and is extremely accurate at 50 yards. I have a decent handful of each now, but will also likely make some more this winter.
PM me if you need some, because I sometimes miss replies within threads.

I absolutely love guns with stories like this! God bless you for helping your friend to be able to shoot his family heirloom.
The kindness and generosity of the members of this forum never disappoints.
