Took the Single Six to Montana for most of the month of June and broke it in on Gophers. Thanks to Fermin and Ronnie for making this a cool project.

After dropping the wife off at our daughter's place in Denver, we took off for northern Montana; just me and the Heeler dog in the truck camper.
Spent over two weeks in the Malta area and went as far south as Zortman for PDs. PDs in the area seem to be on the decline, at least on the places we've shot in years past. However the gophers are back with a vengeance. Our main guns for gophers are a couple of .17M2 bolt guns; a Kimber and a Cooper. We are fortunate to have purchased a LOT of M2 ammo back in '06/'07 when the price was really cheap; like $289/case of 5K. We may have a lifetime supply or close to it. We also have used a Kimber 1911 in .17M2 since about '05/'06 and it's a real hoot although finicky.
Our Single Six in .32 H&R was the main handgun we shot this year. Rim Rock 125gr. Keith SWC pushed by 3.6/3.7-grains of 231 runs 971fps and shoots about 1.5" at 25yds.. Revolver and load did a great job and the PJ jr. grip frame from Ronnie was a joy to use. Hauled the SS around in a Guide's Choice chest rig from Diamond-D. Weather was generally good and our rancher friend, who's spread is north of Malta, loaned us his Polaris Ranger for getting around off road which was a great convenience. Suffice to say, we shot a LOT of gophers with the rifles and burned thru some 350 rounds or so of .32 H&R. The SS was great fun and the ranges were short compared to the rifle kills. We camped the entire time, either out on the prairie or in Trafton Park in Malta. TP is the town's park next to the rodeo grounds and they charge $5/nite to stay there. It's quiet, safe and convenient to the grocery, tire store(which we needed again), and eateries. Other than a few breakfasts, we cooked all of our own dinners (Nellie the Heeler has a thing for Rib Eye bones) and did snack type lunches. All in all it was a great trip.
Would post some pics but are extremely "challenged" in that regard. If someone would like to post a few I can email some to you.

Although new here, we've been trying to learn how to post pics on the 1911 forum for years; have a bud who helps us out with that. Now our daughter has given us an I-Phone and that's a whole 'nuther can of worms!
Thanks for posting the gopher pic.

Thought I was one of the only with love for the 17 Mach 2… mine is custom built on an older Marlin mag Fed 22… it has accounted for the deaths of 100’s of red pine squirrels around our place, and regularly drops raccoons from the tops of the trees around the building site of our farm… I think the Dakotas still have a good supply of PD’s

I became totally enamored by the Mach2 when I first saw the round at SHOT, in '04 I believe. Ended up with two Kimber and 2 Cooper rifles for the round and dabbled with a converted 10/.22 with a heavy bolt/knob gizmo and after market barrel that didn't work out too well. Along the way we managed to get 2 Kimber rimfire 1911s chambered in Mach2. They are a gas but can be quite finicky. When they run well they are more fun than one can imagine when shooting gophers. Still have some blown case heads and keep a spare extractor on hand to keep them running. Back in '05 or '06 CDNN had a Mach2 ammo sale; $289/case of 5K delivered to your door. We bought a sh#t load of the stuff. The Mach2 would be more popular today had Hornady introduced the round before the HMR.
We've shot both N and SD over the years as well as Montana and WY going back to the '80s. PD #s will never be as high as they used to be. Thunder Basin in WY was just outstanding as was the Conata Basin area S of the Badlands. Those days are long gone. To be honest, we'd rather shoot gophers but wont pass on a good dog town.

That's one cool little sixgun.
Great cartridge too. I've always felt the Single Six was a bit much steel to tote for a 22 LR, but PERFECT for the 32 HR.
