...funny but there was a ton of these on GunBroker a few weeks ago...today...none. DANG, MAN!! NOT AGAIN!!
I think I did that.
EVERY single time I decide I want something and just might get one, it goes out of stock indefinitely or is discontinued.
I'm sorry, guys. I'll be quiet next time so as not to rile the curse.

Load was a nice little cast lead SWC. Starline 32 S&W Long case, Remington primer, with a couple grains of VV N310. Just putting a few miles on it so the high spots will show when I take the side plate off. DA trigger isn't bad. Planning to run a few 100 rounds before I change any springs. Am looking at a front sight upgrade. Any of you guys know what the base of this pinned sight looks like? Will the pinned S&W sight work? Will S&W round butt K frame grips fit it?

AxeHandle, I really appreciate the extra effort you made to post those targets.
Thank you!

Anything to work the DA guys into a proper frenzy. FWIW I have never been a Taurus fan. We've had a snub nose 856 on the range for a couple of years. It has been a trouble free range gun. The 9mm revolver caught my eye since I was playing with a S&W 9mm revolver. Flash forward a few pages and the more I handled the 9mm gun the more impressed I became. Still like my S&W guns better but the Taurus products aren't bed.

My Taurus 856 came with an extra ramp front sight in the box, and it does look like a S&W pinned front sight on the base. But, the 856 came with a nice Patridge front sight mounted that is really nice. It has an orange insert and a night sight dot. Maybe Taurus has them available separately. Also in the 856 box was an extra set of compact rubber grips. It's a pretty thoughtful package from Taurus.

Man, that's refreshing!
The popular glowing blobs being tacked onto all the guns these days absolutely do NOT work for me, and seeing someone put sensible (I realize that is a matter of personal perspective) sights on a revolver these days seems very uncommon.
I get the "old eyes" thing, because I have old eyes too, but even as a kid, when Ithaca stuck their "Raybar" front sight on the SKB O/Us they sold, I got my first taste of these things and I hated that sight for years - until I sold the gun. My second SKB (an amazing auto) had the same thing on the shot barrel and the slug barrel and I changed them both out before even trying to shoot it.
The sights (fixed rear/sensible front) on these new Taurus revolvers is one of the most appealing things to me.
My current Charter has an immovable/indestructible, integral ramp with crude checkering and all the crispness of a sarsen at Stonehenge, but it doesn't glow. I'd have to have machining done to get a really god front sight. Their "Professional" line has the glowing blob, otherwise, a few of those revolvers look pretty enticing.
My apologies to anyone who does not hate the glowing front sights. I realize some people like them and I do respect that. I'd just like to have the choice to swap it out and the way Taurus is attaching their front sights, I could do that - even if I had to MAKE one, and I have done just that on several Rugers in the past.

AxeHandle, if I might bother you with another question,...
I've not been able to determine this through poking around on the 'net, but Most of the camera shots facing the muzzles of these guns make it look like the barrels are "sleeved," or "shrouded."
Can you tell on yours if this is so, or if it's a trick the camera is playing on me?
I'm not passing judgement - merely curious. I weathered many a disparaging remark, over many years, regarding the travesty of the "cheap, aluminum shroud" on the Charter Target Bulldogs. I never had a problem with those except that the front sight was aluminum and subject to dents and dings. Funny how that feature was so despised and used against Charter for so long, and now, both Smith and Ruger do it.

Barrels on my 905 and 327 look to be one piece to me...

Got grips ordered from Altamont. They say that delivery is a few weeks out. I'll post pictures of them on the guns when they show up.

Thank you, Sir!
Looking forward to seeing those new grips and hear your impression of how they feel.
I'm trying to figure out if the "old" Taurus grip frames are the same as the current ones. Might look for a pair of the old skinny wood grips and a Tyler grip adapter. Have to handle it first and my invoice say it'll be seven to ten business days to ship.

Looked harder at the barrels. Just might be a shrouded barrel

Looked harder at the barrels. Just might be a shrouded barrel LOL! When you posted the pics of the 605, it REALLY stood out.
I'm curious to figure out if they used something other than steel for the outer "layer" or if they used the same metal as the rest of the gun and just make the outer/inner separately for the sake of economy.
I can imagine that making plain, round, rifled barrels is cheaper that boring and rifling a sculpted piece with the integral ramps, ribs, ejector rod housings, etc. Screw up boring or rifling, you lose all that other machining. I'm thoroughly convinced that the "full underlug" came about in production guns more for the sake of machining and finishing economy than the advantage of decreased muzzle flip."
I'd be perfectly happy with round, tapered barrels and expose ejector rods myself. That's a serious gob of steel Charter screws onto the front of their guns, but they don't get a lot of sculpting on them, so I suppose it's cheaper than doing the two-piece barrels they got a black eye over. Now, everyone's doing it.

Shroud looks like steel. Go to the new 856 post this afternoon for a picture.
