The last mod.19 snub I had was ugly. No verifiable history but looking at its outside "skin" I hypothesized a timeline. It may have spent its first 10 or so years being packed in the sweaty nether regions of a big city hoodlum before becoming a blood splatter gun that got kicked across an asphalt parking lot into a drain. After maybe 5 years it was found and spent the rest of its life rattling around in the bottom of a salt water tackel box ,,,,,, till I got it. All speculation but it had the scars to suggest it. But,,,,,,,,,,, It shot wonderfully. I lost track of it after one of my amigos HAD to have it cuz it was the ugliest gun he had ever seen.

I don't care how ugly the Model 19 or the 66 get; they will always float my boat.
The fit in my hand and the balance is just perfection. I bought my first blued 19 about a dozen years ago in a pawn shop in Lake Havasu for $300 in near mint condition. Even in those days, I stole it. I really don't know how I got it for that price. The seller knew his stuff. I think it was just my karma for that hawgleg to find me. It started a quest for me to find other unknown to me gems. A dozen years later and I'm still searching.
I don't often find myself buying shooters anymore, but if I ran into a nichol 19 with a reasonable length of the barrel, I would jump.
I shoot mine regularly and with full load 357mag. If it breaks, it breaks. There is no way my anxiety is going to stop me from enjoying the ringing of steel with my sweetheart. She's even fun on paper; shooting tiny little groups with my custom handloads built specifically for her. She taught me the sheer joy of many powders, many bullets, and many loads to find perfection.

I picked this one up a couple of years ago for $500. Crazy the quality of the build relative to a Ruger DA. I like those grips/stocks.

Those are round butt target stocks, perfect on a 2.5 or 3” K frame. I’m not sure what models they originally came on and I’m pretty sure Ive never seen a set out in the wild

They originally came on Model 19s 2.5" they are around but spendy. Wish somebody would produce some of Smiths' old designs. Ahrends went bellyup, (sigh), VZ are out of stock and so is Altamont in Smith and new Colt revolver grips. What is happening?
