Gene Hackman's character in "Unforgiven" said "Now that is about as fast as I can draw, aim and fire at anything less than 10 feet away... unless it is a barn.".

TH GOOD, THE BAD,& THE UGLY---THE SPAGHETTI MOVIE ITSELF. I HAVE TRIED TO WATCH IT MANY TIMES AND NEVER MAKE IT THROUGH. HAS TO BE ONE OF THE WORST WESTERN MOVIES EVER. NOW, "THE OUTLAW JOSIE WALES" WITH EASTWOOD IS ONE OF THE BEST!

How was Billy the Kid killed? I don't think it was main street at high noon.

Around midnight, Garrett went to Maxwell's house. The Kid was asleep in another part of the house, but woke up in the middle of the night and entered Maxwell's bedroom, where Garrett was standing in the shadows. The Kid did not recognize the man standing in the dark. He asked him, repeatedly, "¿Quién es?" ("Who is it?"), and Garrett replied by shooting at him twice. The first shot hit the Kid in the chest just above the heart, while the second missed

Between Texas and NM, I have visited no less than three "Billy the Kid's grave" sites.

I think in real life most gun fights in the old west were settled with a shot in the back. Dick With a Winchester

I have a book called "Famous Texas Feuds". There was a feud between two families here in Texas that killed many more people than the "Hatfield and McCoy" feud did but darned my eyes if I can remember the names right now. In the book it does in fact say most people were shot from ambush with rifles and shotguns; and yes, usually in the back.
Oh, and from "Josie Whales", "How's it on stains?".

Yup, been told by instructors, nobody wants to have a fair fight with someone they don't know. I've been getting around to it, the lanyard thing, for a couple of decades now. Always chime in when they are mentioned here. A GOOD idea on water, deep snow, rough terrain, on horseback or ATV etc., living life. Not having done it yet, a thought though, on the cord. Traditionally leather, but I'd consider paracord. Also maybe not stout enough for 2-3 lbs of bear-go-away, but elastic cord with a clip are used by fisherman to hold their wading nets. Available and a couple around here somewhere already. They loop over your neck, shoulder. Stretch far enough too. A source of lanyard rings ?

thinking may not want break neck strength... only strong enough to hold gun through a few bounces & bumps, if needed

Then the trout net elastic loop may work, a better latch on end likely wanted.
