one of the bigger local shops has one of the Ruger Super GP's on order, no idea when it will come in, or what retail will be...( not sold yet ) I've been wanting one this year...the S&W gets mixed reviews & are available on Gun Broker.... so thoughts on the Ruger... would you go Ruger or S&W???

I havent handled one but the Super GPs are built on the Redhawk frame, right?
Seems like an awfully big gun for a 9mm. Guess you could stay on target!

both the S&W & Ruger I'm looking at are competition guns, both 8 shots... the Ruger a 2 piece barrel, with lightening / cooling cuts on it...

I'm biased,, as a Ruger fan. I've shot both,, but very limited time with the S&W. I bought a Ruger Super GP-100 in 9mm.
My Ruger is fairly new to me,, and I'm working towards USPSA matches with it. I've added an extended cylinder release lever,, and that helps a lot if speed is a desire. Mine came with smooth grips,, so I swapped those out with a set of the stippled wood grips. I like the way the cylinder is set for the 9mm only,, and the frame window is "open" allowing the barrel to enter the frame window. It gives me a 6" bbl, while it has the profile of a shorter gun.
Many feel it's an "ugly" looking gun. My thoughts are this. It does not look traditional, but it wasn't built for traditional uses. It was built for competition. As such,, it looks fine to me. When I hear the comments about how ugly it is,, I think of the huge barrelled PPC guns of decades ago, & how they too suffered the verbal abuse from others. But those guns were built to SHOOT!
If you can get one,, all I can offer is to "try it!"

the silver version THE BLACK VERSION not sure I like the dovetail front sight as well as the quick change GP style front, as long as there is windage adjustment on the rear sight... and I may not be partial to the smooth grips as well...

Goofy looking as a Disney dog. So far from traditional it makes my teeth ache to look at it. Only one I ever saw in person a fella brought to the club to shoot steel challenge. So I tried it. One tenths second off from my 1911 and two-tenths faster than I usually run with my speed six loaded with 38sp. This gun loves ringing steel really fast. Beautiful.

I'm a Ruger Fan and Ruger DA revolver collector (I some very LOW 2 digit S/N Ruger DA's) and would love to get one but they are so hard to find I am just waiting. Personally, and everyone has their own opinions, I think it's pretty cool looking (I'm and older guy so I can use words like "cool" to describe a gun ) Tough to find but when I find one, I'll buy it.

I must be crazy, but I can think of no reason for a 9mm Revolver ? a bit more power than a .38 Special ? Make a power factor or something ? A little faster reloads with a moon clip. I really see no other advantage...

For a match that can be easily won or lost in thousandths a little faster reload can be a big thing. The revolver gamers run the 38 Short colt for the same reason.

Action wise I'm guess I'm old and in a S&W groove. I like the toughness of the Ruger and the Ruger doesn't really seem inferior until you shoot one a few 100 times and then pick up your S&W...

Was it just my eyes pre coffee ot did the black version have a full length cylinder? You're seeing correctly. The black version MWM posted above is a .357 with a full length cylinder. Ruger's website does not indicate a 9mm in all black.
