Sounds like all the more reason for an Arizona style open carry law to me.

Yeah, the only reason he shot back is because the perps were black. What a bunch of friggin' idiotic MORONS!! Good for Mr. Ersland, for defending his life & the lives of others in the room. I can't even begin to imagine what a bundle of nerves I'd be after a situation like that...probably take me three hours to calm down from something like that.

"Unfortunately one of them died" Well I guess he has to say that.

Jerome is a Desert Storm vet. I have the feeling he's seen enough death, and didn't want to be the cause of any more. However, that's did not and will not stop him from protecting himself and others.

www.putnamlive.com/DawsonBustedForValuRiteRobberies.htmlI've been working part time for the pharmacist here for the last 3-4 years. Been working there full time for the last 6 months getting ready to build my own store. We havent had anymore excitement since the last shooting, but the Rite Aid across the street was recently robbed at gunpoint. Seeing more and more of this and seeing the majority of cases involving the robbers being armed. I've always thought the judge would be a very practical and good choice for work. Just hoping that the crimson trace in the 229 will be enough of a deterent if it ever happens. Actually plan on having a small gunshop my pharmacy "upstairs by appointment only". "Guns and Drugs" ;D

It really is just like that. Apparently Ohio doesn't have a law restricting the sale of firearms (of all types, I have seen machineguns in that store, and I don't mea nsemi auto only variants) in the same place as hard liquor.

It's hard to see from the tape, but it looks like the kid was still messing with his ski mask when he was shot. Maybe it's the angle, but it didn't look like he had a gun in his hand at the time. He was definitely on his way around the counter, though.
I can't say what I'd do in that sort of situation, but I imagine that with the adrenaline going, Mr. Ersland didn't even really think when he saw the kid still moving...he just plugged him a few more times as more of a reactionary move.
Regardless, that's a crappy deal. I hope he isn't prosecuted for murder over this. THEY brought the fight to HIM...and he finished it. If this sort of outcome was more common, armed theives may think twice before deciding to rob someone at gunpoint.

Ouch! I had shared this with my wife (also a pharmacist) last night. Then we saw the "rest of the story" today. I say they brought the fight to him and he isn't at fault whatsoever. She wasn't as enthusiastic with him shooting him the second time. My wife would be considered as a conservative and unfortunately, if this goes to trial, the "jury of peers" might not be as conservative as my wife. The gentleman has my respect and I wish him luck.
