Not going to take a rifle on this hunt. I am doing handgun only. I regret taking a rifle for my Wyoming pronghorn hunt so I am going to redeem myself

I'd take a bright fiber optic front sight and leave the scope or red dot optic at home, especially if hunting bear over hound
It's the fastest and easiest way to see the sights in the light of the woods and against the cape of black bear
That extra second or so finding the red dot in the tube can easily be the lost opportunity

Hunting over hounds with a scope can get you mauled or dead. Red dots are often obscured by moisture. Use iron and PRACTICE FAST SHOOTING. Even a 200 pounder can ruin your day if he doubles back and the dogs run him straight over you. I've had them do it with 4-500 pounders who prefer to fight rather than climb a tree like smaller ones do. Stand or bait Hunting a scope is fine on your hunter, but irons only on the backup for the walk in or out. Put the hunter in your pack. Keep the backup close.

I'm about 90% sure I'm going to stick with irons. Luckily I have a holster that is also compatible with a scope if I so choose. I will be taking an auto loader with powder coated RNFPs for back up
