If you don’t mind- details of the shot and load? I have made bad shots as most of us have. It happens. Haven’t lost many but we all do our best to prevent it. Good job on following it up and finding him! I find that most times they really didn’t get as far as I was expecting.

Details of the shot & load.
Well, I never openly post my load data. But I can share parts of it. The shot,, about 55 yds away,, with the deer turning & moving as I pulled the trigger. That was why my shot placement wasn't the best. He was facing my left,, and was turning himself to his left,, making him sorta starting to face me as I hit him. The shot entered just behind the shoulder, at a downward angle, (I was in a stand,) and exited forward of his groin, towards the off side of the angle. My load; I was using my El Dorado in .45 Colt. My cast Mihea molded bullet, 280 grn solid, powder coated. Winchester primers, and 2400 powder.
