Hello All, I took my first Button Buck in Ohio yesterday with my S&W 44 Magnum. It was my 2nd ever handgun harvest. I was using Mihec's 432640 Medium HP I made and powder coated fueled by a good dose of 2400. My Labradar had the bullet going 1150 fps at 50 yards. Thanks for looking and any comments. Happy Hunting. Congratulations! It is very satisfying to harvest an animal with your home cast bullets.

Looks like good shot placement. Probably no problem with a blood trail. Good job.

Nice work!
Coupla young men put a nice buck down a half mile south of the house Saturday. Yes, you can see that far and much farther in the NW quarter of this state. It ran out of a woods and made a good quarter mile across a field and laid down. I waited and watched and orange eventually appeared at the spot the deer came out of the woods. He waited it out and let it lay down without further stressing or exciting the animal, trudged out and drug it back to a ditch line. I was proud to see he followed up.
Not sure what part of Ohio you're in, but in this part, the "deer hunters" cone out of the woodwork (cities/suburbs) in droves and blast at anything that moves. Unload a carload of slobs at the edge of a woods and one drives around to the other side. They crash through, blast away and pile back in the car before a game warden can get there. It's gotten better, but as a lifelong Ohio resident/hunter, I'm glad we DON'T allow "high-powered" rifles for deer season. Way too many idiots slinging lead indiscriminately and nothing between them and me/mine/my house but thin air. Many deride the "straight-wall" law as "stupid, but most of them don't live here - at least in this part of the state.
Using a revolver and cast bullets - you're definitely not one of the ones we have to worry about! You're HUNTING, not just blasting.

Congrats! How far did she go after the shot? The side we're looking at is that exit wound side?

That looks like an exit wound. Glad to see another HP cast bullet deer hunter made good.

Congrats! How far did she go after the shot? The side we're looking at is that exit wound side? 50 yards. I'm pretty sure it's the entry side. I was shooting from a hang on tree stand. From what I could tell in the dark I hit both lungs and the heart.

Well done, looks like perfect shot placement & that HP couldn't have worked any better. I've been using cast HP's for 7-8 years now on deer & they are still surprising me how well they penetrate, even from odd angles at times. A friend recently took a cow elk with a cast HP & got complete penetration & she was down instantly using a bisley 45. Congratulations on some good eating venison!
