Glad to see you guys had a great hunt. I contacted Hell's A Roarin' a few months ago about doing one of their pack in hunts in a couple years but the owner will not take handgun hunters. I reached back out just to see if we could discuss the situation and look options but they wouldn't return my messages. It was too bad because they were the one I really one wanted to go on my first and only guided elk hunt with but it is their business so their call. I could see that. Warren the owner is conservative and wants clients happy leaving with bulls. He has no problem telling people "No" if doesn't belive they'll be successful. Obviously he doesn't know you but he's guided thousands and he's see some who would personify "all hat and no cattle." No excuses, I believe he's probably doing what's right for the average client. That said, there wasn't one shot of the 10 elk shot the week that I was there that would have been a handgun shot. I belive the shortest shots were about 200 yards and most of of elk were moving. The way he hunts would make handgun hunting a real challenge at best. Not impossible, but not something I'd want to spend thousands to feel like I brought the wrong tool for the job. Otherwise I would guess you'd love it there.

kevshell.... fine writeup & photos. By description, your wife made by far the most difficult shot, with a cool finger on the trigger----with follow through----or contact would have been impossible. Fine performance with Nosler Accubond .308 200 in the end-on shot, especially after breaking femur. Not sure about .308 caliber, but Nosler introduced the .338 200 Ballistic Tip with 100 grain core & 100 grain jacket. Nosler knew folk would try these bullets on game larger than whitetail, namely elk. Original Ballistic Tips in smaller calibers acted like varmint bullets on whitetail, which lead to toughening the Balistic Tip; and, ultimately, the Accubond. A protein hunt all around and fine read to start the day, David Bradshaw Thank you sir. Yes. She's a fine shot with a handgun, shotgun or rifle. Better then most men. And for clarification - I didn't mention it before but it was a 180gr Accubond.

Very nice - thank you for sharing. As a gear guy I always like to see everyone’s kit as well. Cool to piece it together via the pictures. Is that a Glock 20 in the Kenai chest rig? Yes. I had 2 handguns for myself. One was a glock 20 with buffalo bore hard cast. I really brought that for fly fishing. I don't care if I go for a swim with a glock. The other was the customized Redhawk in 44 mag with Buffalo Bore copper solids. I wore that hunting every day except the day in the picture because of the rain.

Yep, his business and his call. The hunt I wanted to do was the 18-20 mile pack in hunt during the rut. I wanted to explain that I’ve killed enough elk in my life that I don’t need to kill another one for it to be a successful hunt. I was just hoping for a dream hunt where you pack in and get to pack a handgun during a rut hunt. Not much chance to discuss it if he didn’t want to discuss it. No problem, life goes on.

Wow, congratulations to you, your wife, and hunting partners, very cool, I also use the 180 gn Accubond, and Partition, but in 30-06, it is a very tough, accurate bullet.

Been trying to view their website “hell’s a roaring” seems they have been hacked by a Asian gaming company…. Yes. That happened while we were there. Very weird. But they are working on getting it back.
