Good thread! As a ranch kid growing up I thought the Colt SAA was the perfect everyday gun since my Dad and pretty much every grown man I knew carried one daily.
The summer of my senior year I spent every day hiring out to buck hay to earn the money for my own Colt. Dad's was a .38-40 but there were none to be found in that caliber in 1979 but the .357 Magnum was available and I was lucky enough to get one.
I carried that Colt almost every day,Learned to reload and put a stupid amount of rounds through it until I left to go into the Army. While I was gone Dad sent the ol' girl back to Colt for a spa day and a refinish and I still carry it fairly often.
There are times though when a 5 1/2 inch barrel just gets in the way and I find myself favoring a 3 inch barrel Smith M696 .44 special in a Simply Rugged Sourdough holster more than anything including my beloved old Colt. Light and handy is a hard combination to beat.
My original ranch gun- 5.5 inch Colt .357 Magnum
