The 1860 was enlarged around the chambers but not the notches, later manufacturers of replicas of the 1851 used the same principal to chamber them in 44 cal. That's the "band" in reference.
If I reference "The Band" its "The Weight" or "Down on Cripple Creek".

Turns out he was referring to the Belgian Centaure guns of the 1960's. They never made an 1851, only the "1960 New Model Army". The "band" he was referring to was the rebated cylinder of the .44's.

I don't facebook, got a link? This "banding" intrigues me. Just wrap some steel around the cylinder, frame be damned! Hose clamp...

Dude on FB watches Hateful 8 and Bone Tomahawk and decides he wants a Colt SAA. Knows nothing about them, particularly the fact that they're now $2000 or more. I suggests he read something other than some nonsense some other FB idiot tapped out with his thumbs and gave him a link to Big Bore Sixguns. He scoffs at paying $40 for a book. This is the world we're living in.

This is what has always baffled me about the internet. You have an unprecedented amount of information at your fingertips, yet no one wants anything that doesn't come up in a 2min Google search. Or by asking a dumb question to strangers. They'll take the free answer from other dummies and choose to remain ignorant, rather than spending forty bucks on a book that will be with them the rest of their lives. Reminds me of what Murbach used to say about "spoonfeeding pablum".

Then there are those who, knowing nothing of the subject matter, ask legitimate questions; receive concise and well established advice- and then argue because they expected an easier solution. I have, sadly, reached the point I seldom bother anymore and sometimes chuckle when they get those "free answers from other dummies". Too many people today seem to believe that their only investment in learning should be in asking the question on the internet. They don't (and don't Want to) READ these days, for fear (?) they might actually LEARN some ancillary information beyond the scope of their basic, often poorly-conceived query. . "They" have not yet mastered even the rudiments of critical thinking..
Our educational Dollars down the drain.

I belong to the group. It drives me crazy what some of these guys write. Two things I read today: Sam Colt went to Belgium in 1853 and sign an agreement with some Belgium makers to build some of his pistols, one was the 1860 Army. In 1960 these same builders made the 1960 New Army for Centennial Arms because they still had all the Colt machinery setting around for 100 years. The second story was a guy whose grandfather left him a S&W 1917. The problem was that the steel barrel had swollen because it was old steel and the cylinder wouldn't close, but his gunsmith fixed that problem. But, it still has the wrong grips and someone had removed the sling from the bottom of the frame. But, it looks good because someone had repainted it. Oh, it's a 1913 frame with a 1917 cylinder.

You may send a digital copy of my Black Belt in Misanthrope to 'Sarge' at invssgt@gmail.com Hear Hear Buddy! Drives me crazy when they ask an expert a question on how to get from point A to Point B and you tell them, then they argue with you as if you haven't already tried it 5000 different ways. WELL CANT YOU JUST!!!!!!! Drives me Nutts. Reminds me of a time a Kid ended up at my Hot Rod Shop. Chassis laying everywhere. High Dollar Engine components on every shelf And argued with me about how the clutch works on A Nitro Funny Car or Top Fueler! He obviously didnt know who i was and i just blew him off! I Was In Tulsa, Racing My Nitro Flopper a few months later and there he was in the pits taking a picture of me slammin a clutch in my 300 mph in a thousand feet car with the most dumbfounded look on his face. He took This picture as i was asking him if he figured those Darn clutches out yet and if he wanted to shut the hell up and learn something! He had a little different attitude this time and watched & took the next picture of us winning a round with me standing to the left rear as it left the line! Sometime it pays to just shut up and Listen because if you dont know who your talking to you might get surprised. And get no real answers. Youll Just pissem off! we have since become friends and when he gets to running his mouth, i remind him of this time. Hahaha. This forum has a Major wealth of Heavy Hitters, and i mean men who dont just talk it but actually do it! I am very Grateful to be a part of it and i learn something here every day! R

Ive been on both sides. Ive been the one shutting up and listening and Ive been the one schooling someone that has shut up to listen. You need to know when to talk and to listen. I still do A LOT of listening.

I have asked many questions on here and cast boolits. While I don't always agree right off with all the answers I get, if an answer is from one of the known gentlemen on either forum, I don't just dismiss it. I try it. Some have worked for me, some not. If you don't try it you can't know which it will be. I've even argued a point with Mr. Taffin, but usually I shut my mouth and listen. That's the only way to learn from another man's experience.
