I have a S&W model 19-5 -- with full rosewood grips.
I'd like to understand what my options are as far as grips / gripframes.
I have several specifics -- but I'd like to get a general feedback first.
Thanks, Chad

IF your goal is concealment, I am more than pleased with my wood Spiegel "boot grips". They require a round butt.

Give a look at Hogue and Eagle grips, they will show you a good assortment of your options

If this is going back over basic info, I apologize, but in the event you are new to this, be aware that Smiths don't have "gripframes" in the manner of a single action Colt or Ruger.
The grip is integral to the receiver.
Generally, they are configured as "round butt" or "square butt". The round configuration is a little more compact.
It is generally not a big deal for a skilled gunsmith to convert a square butt to a round butt-I had it done around 4 years back for around 50-60 bucks. It IS a permanent alteration, no going back, so be sure if you do it, that it is what you absolutely want.

Let me state myself more precisely-the alterations to the receiver are permanent.
Yes, there are grips which have the external configuration of square butt grips, but which fit round butt guns.

Indeed church, I myself wouldn't want to cut up the butt of a square butt gun anyways, especially since they aren't making the manymore.

Cutting up a square butt "K" is a personal choice, I suppose. Mine is a hard-to-find 3" HB Model 10 SB. The RB version is even scarcer, and frankly the SB version wouldn't conceal for me worth diddly.
Thinking as a user, and not a collector, I had mine cut. It certainly carries under a vest much more discretely.
In the end it depends if you want an original piece, or an optimized tool.

Hogue monogrips are a nice and they make them for both square and round butt. If you want a set that'll contour the gripframe with no overhang, try Ajax. -Lee www.singleactions.com

Hogue makes those monogrips in wood too.

I have those Hogue monogrips in wood on mine. Pau Ferro wood I believe, I like them and they look good on the gun, but the rubber version is very practical.

I always ended up sanding the finger grooves off of mine, they made the grip too bulky, and I never liked the rubber because I couldn't do that

One of the best K frame grips I ever found are the old Herrett Shooting Star grips. They can be found on ebay for around $50.00 and worth every penny
