I really like the look of that more or less full length forearm.

I love a long forearm as well. I had ordered one about a half to 3/4 inch longer but he didn’t have a long enough piece of wood so I took that rather than waiting.

My first contender was A Super 14 .30-30 which my wife gave me for Christmas when they first came out. I was strictly a sixgunner and my first thought was what would I do with this thing. Since it was a gift and since it was from her I had to shoot it. At 200 yards I placed five shots in a group I could cover with my fist. I knew this was something special. I went on to use it in Long Range Silhouetting as well as hunting. I still have it as well as a second one with one having a scope on the other iron sights. It will out shoot any lever action .30-30. Great gun; great cartridge.

Like John, I've had my Super 14 .30-30 since Fall 1978. I used it as my Unlimited silhouette gun until I had my first XP built in 7mm/308 by David Armstrong. Like yours, it wears a Leupold base and rings, and wore a 4X Leupold for 25 years until I switched to a 2-6 Bushnell 3200. It is still extremely accurate and won't be for sale in my lifetime. Congratulations on your deer!

Congratulations Joe, that's a great caliber in the Contender & as most people know it takes a good rifle to out shoot one with good loads.

Thanks yall. Added a second one but didn’t get any pics. Same deal, but it was facing me (head down) at just a little further than the first, about 122 yards. Went straight down.

I have a Super 14 in 30-30, too. I love this single shot. I used to shoot 130 and 150 grain bullets at break neck speeds. Now I just shoot powder coated 130s with powder puff loads. It's still loads of fun.

It is a go getter. I am up to three deer with it this year.

I need a scope on mine. My eyes aren't as precise anymore with open sights.
