Nothing real special, but it was my first .44 Special and it is pretty darned accurate right out of the box and the stocks are quite nice too.

Lee, Love that Bulldog. ;D
That was the first thing that popped in my head too. I've got the old 4 inch target version, as sad as the rear sights are, that thing will still shoot one inch groups at 25 yrds!! I figure I can shave a Micro sight by .050 and fit it to the slot on the frame, drill a new pivot pin and up grade it. For the front I'd shave off the blade to the top strap, drill and hole in the front of the top strap and slot the top for a new blade. With a spring retainer it would be like a GP or RH front sight. Makes for a nice light trail gun.
It's out on loan to my brother right now, but I think I can make all these changes myself.

A question tangential to this topic: Were Ruger Blackhawk-class (includes FA M97s) 45 Colts to have been available, say at the turn of the twentieth century, would the cult popularity of 44 Special single actions exist? I ask because I think the key to the 44's status hinges on relative weakness of SAA 45 cylinders -- that is, 44s SAA revolvers are able to accept safely stiffer handloads than the same revolvers chambered for 45 Colt because of more metal mass surrounding each chamber.

Naphtali, I think the 45 Colt would have been the gun of choice of Ole Elmer had such strong revolvers been available... but, who knows? If the 44 S&W sixguns had more consistent throat diameters and the stronger cylindered 45s been equipped with over or undersized throats, Elmer might have settled on the 44 anyhow.

Thanks chutch, John has fit both the brass bisely grip frames I've installed and he does a super job. I'm not much of a new model guy but I have to admit I'm kind of excited to pick upthe Lipsey's 5 1/2" 44 Special so I can get started on it. It gets the S & W ribbed barrel cut to 5 1/2" and either the last brass bisley or a Power's #5 once they get shipped.
