I am no stranger to reloading. I just have been away from metallic for a few years.
I got on Load Data and got recipes for my .475
I have a load of 14.5 gr of HS-6 under a 395 gr WFN that absolutely wills itself into groups. 7 1/2 barrel.
Load Data is lacking as far as my old manuals go.
How fast am I running approximately? I dont own a chronograph. Hoping this will have enough umph to be my whitetail load as its lights out.
Trajectory at 100 if zeroes at 50? Just need an Idea. Will of course confirm on the range. Thanks, Colby

I looked up some old info.
Gun - Freedom Arms M757 6" magnaported Chrono - Competition Electronics - 5 Long paces from muzzle and 60 deg F Starline .475 Linebaugh cases and Win Lg Pistol primers.
385gr LFN GC Mt Bullet Works, 15.0gr HS6, 1,124 fps avg, (16 fps ES) for 5 shots 400gr LFN GC Mt Bullet Works, 15.0gr HS6, 1,143 fps avg, (32 fps ES) for 5 shots
Can't answer you trajectory question - you will need to shoot to know for sure.
FWIW,
Paul

Assuming this is a Linebaugh? Research says +/- 1,100 FPS. You’re good for deer and most everything else. I shoot a light 500 S&W 440 gr hard cast at 1,100 FPS that fully penetrates two pigs at 75 yards. Close enough to what you are shooting.

Im guessing somewhere around 1100 fps? +/-
Same starline brass with WLP.
I dont plan on airing them out to 100 yards anymore. Just want to make sure I have enough gas on it to do so.

If this is the case, I'll likely never drive it any harder. Gun loves it. And pigs are the main quarry. I just state deer. They are not any harder to kill than deer in my limited experience of killing a thousand or so of them.

I guess it depends on the pig. Some get pretty big and in my opinion are much tougher than deer. At least they are much thicker in body construction. You’ve got the right medicine. Go get ‘em!

Yes Sir. I've literally killed/cleaned a mountain of them. Off the caprock south of Abilene. I've read all about a Mythical Mystical bullet proof shield. The Charges. The man eating capabilities. What you say is correct, but they are not the bullet soaking tanks that some would imply. I get a little quick on the draw regarding them. I appreciate your input!

Considerable drop between 50 and 100. 4ish inches.
Will have to get a targwlet that I can actually see at 100. Basically just centered up on a piece of paper. Most shots went inside 4 inches.

I doubt there's a white tail on the planet that could ever stop a 390-400 gr bullet running over 1100 fps, or any other animal in north america really. At least not very often from any angle.

Dick image postYeah. I dunno what I was thinkin. I made a quick trip to the range. Gun holds a sub 1 inch group at 50. This was what I got at 100. I cannot see the printed target at 100. Only the paper, so I was hap hazardly holding the dot in the center of the paper. Let loose of 13 rounds at the 100 yard line. Field rest. I called the high hit as soon as it went off as well as the 2 low right that I pulled. I must get a smaller target that I can see at 100. Group will surely shrink a great deal. Currently its good enough to ride the tractor with me and poke holes in bacon with a slight high hold. Only the large holes are mine. Someone had left a target and it was getting dark.

Chaos, I shoot that same load and bullet. Depending on your BC gap, you’re some where around 1100-1150 FPS. Zeroed 2” high at 50 yards will have you about dead on at 75 and around 2” low at 100... Haven’t taken anything with it, but steel plates - yet. The steel takes a pretty big wallop - a deer doesn’t stand a chance.

That certainly lines up with my current 1 inch High at 50 and approx 3 inch low at 100. Easy Peasy. Will paint some circles that I can see and adjust from there. I recently got some electonic headphones. All you can hear is the bullet hit. They cut out during the shot. Pretty darn neat! Thank You, Gents!

When I take hunters out (and my own family) I tell them to try to center both shoulders. The "Shields" are mainly over the rib area and thin greatly over the shoulders. Anyone may say what they will, but I have a coffee can of bullets found under and in that shield with a skinning knife, even several 30 caliber rifle bullets. Don't know exactly what angle they hit at so I am not making any assumptions, but I have the bullets. None that I am aware are any type of premium bullet like an A-frame or Partition. Just cup and core, usually separated. With a center shoulder hit, If you are a little high, you get the spine. A little low and it is the heart and both front legs. Forward and you are in the neck at the spine. Rearward and you are still well into lungs and vascular tissues. Cast bullets do not suffer from the velocity loss that a separated rifle bullet does. Just my opinion.

Chaos, try shooting at a 12" white square against a 24" square black background or, do it the other way around depending on the time of day & which shows up better. That way you will get a good, clear contrast & if you have a good sight picture you should be able to shoot a pretty good group against that contrast. That's why I have one side of my 8X8 steel painted white on one side & black on the other, that way I can turn it around depending on light conditions.
Sometimes I'll back it up with a half sheet of sheet rock if I'm shooting for distance, makes for a lot of fun, especially if you're shooting alone. If you have a good back ground you can do some amazing long range work with an iron sighted six gun with good loads & good sights.
Remember, several million Buffalo were killed with pure lead going quite slow & many times with complete penetration, just like the old Colt 45's & a 255 gr lead bullet at about 950 fps that was designed to shoot through a HORSE!

Dick Going to do it. Except with colored circles. My dot covers about 2 inches at 100. Going to make some bright colors that Ray Charles could see!! Will for sure do the contrasting background!
